City Surf Project City Surf Project connects Bay Area youth to the ocean and themselves through surfing. This program fills that gap.

CSP connects underrepresented youth to the awe-inspiring ocean and the magical feeling of riding waves. Through the sport of surfing, CSP participants have the opportunity to relieve stress, heal from trauma, and find a place of meditation. Through the process of learning to surf, CSP participants learn patience, problem solving, and the maxim that hard work pays off. These skills transfer readily

to other parts of their lives that may be plagued with challenges, like school, home, and social life. Virtually all of CSP’s participants are from communities with high rates of obesity and related health problems, so the physical demands of CSP’s surfing program are particularly beneficial. Many high schools serving economically struggling communities no longer offer a physical education class.
