Speak Up About AB1157 – Join small property owners in Sacramento on April 24
Assembly Bill 1157 (AB1157), introduced by Assemblymember Ash Kalra, proposes major changes to California’s rent control laws. If passed, the bill would:
Expand rent control to nearly all rental properties, including single-family homes and condos, which are currently exempt.
Lower the statewide rent cap to 2% plus inflation (max 5%), down from the current 5% plus inflation (max 10%)
Make rent caps and eviction protections permanent by removing the 2030 expiration of AB 1482
Increase enforcement and penalties, allowing tenants and government attorneys to pursue legal action against landlords.
These changes could have lasting effects on housing providers across the state. If you’re concerned about how AB1157 could impact your ability to maintain or invest in rental housing, please join us in Sacramento:
