Family House San Francisco We provide a home away from home for families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

We're a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Located a few blocks from UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Mission Bay, the Nancy & Stephen Grand Family House houses up to 80 patient families per night and offers communal kitchens and living spaces, a toy room, outdoor courtyard, and more. Founded in 1981, Family House is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing family-centered care in a supportive community dedicated to caring for the whole family while their child is undergoing treatment.

“Family House was set up as cost-free place for families to stay, but also as a center based very much on communal experience, so these families could share with each other what they were going through,” said Family House co-founder Dr. Arthur Ablin, Head of Clinical Pediatric Oncology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

Meet the O'Callaghans, a special Family House family who will be sharing their story in Napa this weekend 🫶

In 1996, Gino and Kristin first came to Family House when their sons, Brandon and Garrett, were diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer. Soon after, their daughter Terra received the same diagnosis. Nearly 30 years later, Brandon and his wife Joanna came back when their daughter Penelope was diagnosed at just six weeks old.

We're so grateful they'll be joining us for our 30th anniversary celebration of Cabs, on the 30th anniversary year of their journey with Family House 🥹🍇
