The Emotional Health Institute is a nonprofit organization aiming to create communities where individuals, children, and families are thriving emotionally; free from disruptive emotional patterns (such as fear, anger, anxiety, phobias…) and the otherwise long-lasting effects of trauma. Our focus is to understand how our brain constructs emotional patterns and to teach how it can resolve them permanently and naturally.

A child who is thriving emotionally is a better student, sibling, friend, inspiration. An adult who is thriving emotionally is a better parent, leader, mentor, neighbor. An individual who knows how to resolve dysfunctional emotional patterns is a powerful help for the community. is to teach the Emotional Resolution® Process or EmRes® and to educate about and around emotional functioning and the resolution of difficult emotional patterns.

I’m glad to share my conversation with Jada Rich on &Headspace, now available to listen.

We talk about the connection between emotional health and athletic performance: why confidence and focus can falter under pressure, why understanding a trigger doesn’t always make the reaction go away, and how coaches, parents, and support systems can help athletes feel supported.

We also explore the difference between mental toughness and suppressing what’s happening emotionally—and how Emotional Resolution® (EmRes®) works with recurring emotional patterns through awareness of physical sensations.

Whether you’re an athlete, coach, parent, or simply interested in the relationship between emotions and performance, I hope you’ll give it a listen.

We are not separate from the universe—and our bodies are not separate from our emotional lives.

Jean‑Yves Leloup’s words remind us that the body is far more than something we inhabit. It carries the history of life itself: ancient matter, inherited intelligence, and an extraordinary capacity for adaptation.

EmRes® invites us to approach our emotional reactions through this same respect for the body.

Rather than immediately analyzing the story, searching for meaning, or trying to control what we feel, we bring our attention to the physical sensations arising within us. We allow the body’s natural process to unfold, creating the possibility for debilitating emotional patterns to resolve—without needing to relive the past.

The body is not a problem to overcome. It is where emotion is experienced—and where resolution can begin.

What might change if, instead of asking, “Why am I feeling this?” we paused and asked:

“What is happening in my body right now?”

Have you ever been moving through your day and out of the blue you have an uncomfortable emotion burst forth.
- Frustration as a car cuts in front of you.
- Overwhelm as you think of all that you have to DO today, that long list.
- Worry about those you love ❤️ when you think of the struggle they are going through.

These emotions all have unique sensations that we feel in our body. A knot in our tummy, heart racing, tight throat, clenched jaw, rush of heat.

Imagine if you had a technique you could use to resolve the emotions.

To witness the feeling and allow it to naturally flow through you.
To give your body the opportunity to soften and let go of the discomfort.

This is what I’d love to share with you!

I invite you to join us tomorrow for my 4-week live online course, where I’ll be teaching you the Self Emotional Resolution ® technique.

A practical, body-based technique you can learn and use yourself when everyday emotional stresses arise.

We start tomorrow

Thursday 15th October, 6-7pm Perth time.

I’d love you to join us!

A breakup doesn’t only end a relationship. It can reveal what was already asking to be resolved.

This quote by Lucas Clavel captures something deeply human: when we have been living through emotional pain, almost any new connection can feel like a relief.

But beneath the urgency to move on, a rupture may expose familiar emotional patterns—fear of abandonment, rejection, loneliness, unworthiness, or losing control...

The invitation is not to close ourselves off from love. It is to pause long enough to meet what has surfaced.

Through EmRes®, we work directly with the body’s sensory response to emotion, allowing debilitating emotional patterns to resolve—without needing to analyze the story or relive the past.

Before asking a new relationship to quiet the pain, what if we gave ourselves the opportunity to resolve what the breakup has revealed?

What has a breakup helped you discover about your own emotional patterns?

Encouraging preliminary findings from the UCLA CalmER Study.
Can a brief, remote intervention help reduce anxiety among healthcare workers?
In this randomized controlled trial, 124 healthcare workers with elevated anxiety symptoms received either:
• Six individual EmRes sessions
• Six individual Mindfulness-Based Gratitude sessions as an active control
Both groups experienced improvement. However, participants receiving EmRes showed significantly greater reductions in anxiety than participants in the active-control condition.
The statistical interaction between time and treatment group was significant (p = .017). At the first follow-up, EmRes participants also reported significantly lower anxiety than control participants (p = .009).
Stress and depression followed a similar pattern, although those results were not statistically significant.
These are preliminary poster findings—not yet a final peer-reviewed publication—but they represent an encouraging step in investigating Emotional Resolution® as an accessible, scalable intervention for anxiety.
I am deeply grateful to the UCLA research team, everyone who supported this project, and the healthcare workers who participated.
What question would you most like the next phase of this research to answer?
Please share this post with therapists, researchers, healthcare professionals, and others interested in somatic approaches to emotional health.

what if recurring emotional patterns did not only need to be managed—but could be resolved?

Many clients understand why they react the way they do. They may have developed insight, coping strategies, and emotional regulation skills—yet the same automatic fear, anxiety, anger, shutdown, or avoidance continues to return.

Emotional Resolution® offers a different possibility.

EmRes® is a somatic, non-retraumatizing approach that works directly with the physical sensations underlying a debilitating emotional pattern. It does not require clients to analyze, interpret, or repeatedly revisit their past.

During Module 1 of the EmRes Practitioner Training, you will explore:

• How emotional patterns are formed and why they persist
• The difference between regulating and resolving a reaction
• How the body can complete its natural process of resolution
• Practical applications through demonstrations, experiential exercises, and supervised practice

This training is designed for therapists, coaches, healthcare providers, and other helping professionals who want to expand what may be possible for the people they support.

A tight throat. A heavy chest. A knot in the stomach.

How quickly do we turn a sensation into a story?

“This means you’re holding back your words.”
“That must be an unresolved trauma.”

A sensation alone does not establish either explanation. When a practitioner presents an interpretation as fact, it can lead someone to question their own experience and adopt a story that isn’t theirs.

In EmRes®, we invite people to notice their physical sensations and allow them to evolve, without imposing a meaning or trying to control them.

The person’s experience remains their own. Our role is to support the process of resolving debilitating emotional patterns with care and curiosity.
