We've just released an Emmy Award winning KPIX special report from 1980 called 'Cruising Mission Street', featuring social conflict over lowrider car culture in the Mission District. This footage will be screened in a panel discussion at SFSU Library, Room 286, from 12:30pm-1:30pm on October 15: 'Latinas in Lowriding Culture', with Valerie Tulier-Laiwa, Ruby Ramirez, and Lucia Araiza Uribe.

We've just released a TV drama from 1954, presented by students of San Jose State University and broadcast by KPIX-TV, called 'Thin Like Tortillas'. It's much earlier than most of our TV material and is set among Mexican migrant workers in the Santa Clara Valley during the Depression years of 1935-36. Link to clip in the 'Comments'.

We've just released this biker funeral footage from September 9, 1966, shot by KRON-TV in San Francisco and Colma. If anyone can tell us who this funeral was for, we'd be grateful. I couldn't find any mention of it in the SF Chronicle or Examiner. The grieving family seen on camera appear to be Asian American and the only visible patch is for the South Bay chapter of the Gypsy Joker MC. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks. The photo image is a freeze frame, grabbed from a 4K scan of the original 16mm negative film elements, shot by KRON-TV, who looked the report on 9/9/1966. [link to video in Comments]

We finally got our main computer's logic board replaced, which is back up and running after 1-month of inaction. The ScanStation film scanner was still working, so we'll be releasing a bunch of TV news clips online soon, featuring amongst others: Charles Schultz; Al Attles; LaVerne Williams and Richard Oakes. Watch this space.

We're proud that film footage from our KPIX Collection featuring the Black Panthers at a 1968 rally in Oakland is being featured in the new Obama Presidential Center Museum. The Obama Foundation were also great to work with.

The Museum presents the remarkable story of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, America’s first Black president and First Lady.
