House of Gongs

House of Gongs House of Gongs is a creative space cultivating Kulintang artists and cultural practitioners.

House of Gongs is a grassroots movement that honors both tradition and innovation of gong-row music. We cultivate artists from different background through studying, learning and/or practicing music from the Southern Philippines and encourage them to bring the traditions into their own artistic creativity and experience. We hold classes on Saturday mornings and are open to private lessons.

UNI at Ugat Music Camp 2026

For two weeks, we gathered at the roots.

We sang, drummed, danced, listened, remembered, and healed. We learned from masters, elders, culture bearers, and each other. We found our voices in community and discovered rhythms that were already living within us.

What was created here goes far beyond music. It lives in the friendships formed, the stories exchanged, the tears released, the laughter shared, and the ancestral connections awakened.

We are still vibrating from the frequencies of these beautiful souls and the collective mana that filled the last 2 weeks.

Swipe through for a glimpse of the magic, medicine, and memories we created together. ➡️

Until we gather again at the roots.

May the gongs be with you, always.

Today, House of Gongs mourns the passing of an influential elder, Papa Sapi Bawer.

A keeper of stories, songs, and spirit, Papa Sapi's presence touched generations. Though he has journeyed beyond this realm, his legacy continues to live through his children—Jenny, Mimi, Irene, and Duane—and through all those who carry his teachings forward.

We sang his songs. We played his music. We shared in the gifts he entrusted to our community. His melodies, wisdom, and love remain woven into the rhythms of our lives.

Istay Choi, Papa Sapi. May your journey be peaceful, and may the ancestors welcome you home with song.

Until we meet again, your voice will continue to echo through every gong struck, every song sung, and every heart you have touched.

May the gongs be with you, always. 🤍

From the galaxy of the San Francisco Bay Area, a revered elder journeys to O‘ahu to share her wisdom in movement and spirit.

Alleluia is part of the very force that sparked the birth of House of Gongs. A guiding light for many Filipinx diasporic artists across generations, she has empowered countless creatives to reclaim voice, body, culture, and ancestral memory through the arts.
Now, the Force continues.

Join us for a special Filipino movement master class with our manai, as she opens pathways through movement, storytelling, and embodied ancestral practice. This is more than a class — it is a gathering of lineage, healing, and resistance.

Come train with the elders.
Come move with intention.
Come awaken the force within.
May the gongs be with you, always.
