The Girls State Alumnae Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation incorporated in the State of California for the purpose of promoting and supporting the American Legion Auxiliary California Girls State Program and California Girls State alumnae. Run entirely by volunteers, every dollar raised by the Foundation is used to further the Girls State experience and to empower the young women who
attend. American Legion Auxiliary California Girls State empowers young women. With prominent speakers and an accomplished staff, the program is designed to show delegates their unlimited potential for success. For many delegates, Girls State is the first opportunity they have had to interact with and learn from similarly high caliber young women from different cultural or socioeconomic backgrounds. Since 1938, the American Legion Auxiliary’s California Girls State Program has brought together a diverse group of young women for a week-long summer program focused on citizenship and government. Each of five hundred sponsored high schools may send only one delegate, selected on the basis of her strong academic performance, dedication to community service, and leadership potential. The Girls State Alumnae Foundation works to keep the alumnae of Girls State in contact and to encourage networking and interaction. Membership is open to any woman who has attended a California Girls State session in full, whether as a delegate or staff member. All members will receive the Girls State Alumnae Foundation yearly e-newsletter and periodic communications from the Foundation.
