🚨ACTION ALERT🚨BY SEPTEMBER 19🚨
🚨🚨WRITE TO CONGRESS/USDA IN LINKTREE🚨🚨

The USDA is removing protections for 45 million acres of National Forests by rolling back the Roadless Rule, making the land vulnerable to destructive building, logging, and extraction. This represents about one third of all National Forest land, including over 8,000 climbing routes and 25,000 miles of trails.

You have ONE MONTH FROM TODAY to submit public comment to the USDA (until September 19).

There is an EASY WAY TO DO THIS. Outdoor Alliance has created a one-webpage submission site to make your voice heard to your representatives in Congress and the Secretary of Agriculture - they even wrote the letter for you. You can find it in our Linktree.

Join BACC x FilipinUp - A Filipino Climbers Collective on Saturday, Sept 5th from 9AM – 1PM at Indian & Mortar Rock for a community cleanup. We’ll be clearing trash, pulling weeds, removing graffiti, and learning about the history and cultural significance of these lands.

Afterward, head over to Bridges Rock Gym at 3:00 PM for the FilipinUp Afterparty & Potluck—all cleanup volunteers get a FREE day pass! 🎉

Hey you. Yeah you. Have you heard the news about Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante? Have you wondered if there is a super-easy way for you to do something about it? WELL. Outdoor Alliance has made it incredibly easy for you to write to Congress in one simple webpage. See Linktree in bio.

Your voice matters. Stay involved and let your representatives know that protecting our public lands is important to you.

What? You need more details? Okay, here's another paragraph:

In July, the current federal administration dramatically reduced the boundaries of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments, stripping protections from nearly three million acres of some of America's most iconic public lands. Access Fund estimates that over 80% of climbing routes in the Bears Ears area will lose protection, and the majority of climbing routes in Indian Creek are now directly at risk from mining and energy development. Crikey it's bad, have you written to Congress yet???

On August 4th at 5pm Pacific, the Bay Area Climbers Coalition will facilitate a virtual conversation about the unique cultural and ecological significance of sacred lands in Lisjan Ohlone territory (Berkeley, CA) that are also known for climbing: Indian Rock and Mortar Rock parks. Our speaker is Corrina Gould, the director of the Sogorea Te Land Trust and tribal spokesperson for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan.

Please take some time to educate yourselves about these beautiful places before the talk. We have some useful articles in our bio, as well as links for registration, or visit our events page at bayareaclimberscoalition.org

We’re heading back to Vent 5 on Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and we want you there! 🪨

Back in March our volunteers put in incredible work establishing the trail down to the climbing area and we are ready to pick up right where we left off. This time around we will continue defining and building out the trail to make access safer and more sustainable for everyone who climbs there.

And of course, once the rocks have been moved into place, we are moving onto them! Nothing beats earning your climbs after a solid day of trail work. 🧗

Come join the BACC for a day of stewardship, community and climbing. Every set of hands makes a difference. See you out there!

This past weekend, the BACC met up for a day of trail development and climbing at Vent 5.

After a general meeting (complete with amazing breakfast burritos) in the parking lot, we hiked down to the picturesque coastal climbing walls and got to work! In an effort to renaturalize the previous social trail that most people utilized to make their way down to popular climbing spots like Vent 5, Kombucha Crag, and The Woo Wall, the BACC developed a more convenient, stable, and environmentally-friendly trail.

And of course, no BACC meetup would be complete without a little climbing, using the newly developed trail to get down to the crag and up on the wall.

Join us for our next stewardship event at Glen Canyon Park on April 18th, where we will partner with San Francisco Recreation and Parks to clean the crag and remove invasive plant species. All required tools will be provided, so come join us in protecting Bay Area climbing!

❗️Note: Space is limited to 20 participants, so make sure to sign up via our LinkTree. 👉 linktr.ee/bayareaclimberscoalition
