NEXT Village San Francisco

NEXT Village San Francisco At NEXT Village, we believe in the power of community to achieve society-wide change in the way we age.

Everyday, we work to build caring communities that dignify aging and honor our desire to age in the place we call home. Our mission is to provide residents of San Francisco’s northeast corner with the confidence and practical means to live safely and comfortably in their homes and in their community as they age.

When Michele Anderson tore a gluteal muscle a few years ago, she woke up in such severe pain that she could barely walk or get out of bed. Her son travels internationally for business, so he was of limited help as was her circle of friends.

End of Life Planning with Legal Assistance to the Elderly

When: Thursday, Jul 23 1:00PM - 2:00PM PDT

Where: Online

TAKE CONTROL & MAKE YOUR WISHES KNOWN!

We know many people don't know where to start to create an end-of-life plan or don't know whom to turn to to help. It's confusing, it's difficult to think about, and people often have concerns about the cost involved, so many tend to try not to think about it or worry about it, but don't take action.

We are excited to have Legal Assistance to the Elderly, which provides legal services to SF seniors and adults with disabilities FREE of charge, regardless of income.

Establishing an end-of-life plan is an important step in ensuring your wishes are known and kept a top priority, even if you are not able to advocate for them. Documents like wills, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives offer you and your loved ones peace of mind, eliminating uncertainty about what you want.

Join us on Zoom to hear from Legal Assistance to the Elderly to learn about:

Wills - designate an executor, beneficiaries for your belongings, and identify your burial preferences.
Advance Healthcare Directives - authorize an agent of your choosing to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you are unable.
Financial Powers of Attorney - authorize an agent of your choosing to manage your financial affairs if you are unable.
Trusts - can manage and distribute assets before or after death
Resources - including options if you don't have anyone you feel comfortable asking to be your agent. We'll also learn about the services Legal Assistance to the Elderly provides free of charge.

The sooner you take action, the sooner you take control of your future. We hope you will join us to learn about options for making your wishes known and resources to help you complete important health and financial documents. This event is open to ALL SF Seniors & adults aged 18+ with disabilities, so please forward information on this Zoom event to friends & family who may find it of value so they can register and get the Zoom link.

Stress Busters -- Monthly Workshop (Zoom)

When: Thursday, Jul 23 1:00PM - 2:00PM PDT

Where: Online

Stress Busters workshops are open to everyone to help us learn how to better respond to any situation in a helpful way instead of getting upset.

We all have stress - that uneasy feeling we get when we're upset, whether it's because we're angry, worried, depressed or disturbed for other reasons. Stress is our reaction to big problems, like dealing with a family crisis, or to smaller everyday problems, like a crowded bus and no one offering you a seat. Stress is often seen as external circumstances that disturb us and make us miserable.

Through Stress Busters, we recognize that stress is actually the result of our own reactions. It is how we view a situation and how we choose to react that gives us stress. We cannot control our external circumstances; however, we can use Stress Busters tools to control ourselves and the choices we make so we calmly respond to situations in an appropriate, helpful way.

If anything is stressing you out, we invite you to join us. Each session provides a skit to help us more easily visualize a cause of stress, and then provides simple yet highly effective steps to help you handle stress, make better decisions and live your life better.
