On one side: a federal agency, a trafficker with a global network, a landlord with a law firm on retainer. On the other: one person, often working in their second language, trying to get a foothold in a complex legal system.

Alone, that is not a fair fight.

Together it is. Our attorneys and staff, our partners, our supporters, our communities, our clients. A night of support becomes a year of funding, and that becomes a lifetime of change for someone who needed it most.

Q1'2026: 197 T visas approved. 199 T visas denied. 71,140 T visa applications pending.

Survivors of human trafficking deserve much, much better.

48 years.

At the current pace, that is how long it would take to clear the current backlog of applications for T visas—an essential form of immigration relief for trafficking survivors.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services just released its data on T visas for the 2nd quarter of this fiscal year:

197 T visas approved.
199 T visas denied.
71,140 T visa applications pending.

USCIS must allocate more resources to process these applications. Trafficking survivors are waiting in limbo, at risk of immigration detention or deportation. Official processing times have surged to 32 months, but, given the backlog, that number is unrealistic.

Survivors deserve better. They deserve protection, safety, and the chance to rebuild their lives.

"Restraining Orders Are Not Safety Plans." That was the presentation our Elder and Disability Rights team brought to the 20th Conference on Elder Abuse, a sold-out gathering of elder law attorneys, social workers, and advocates hosted by Legal Assistance for Seniors.

For the second consecutive year, our team was invited to present, this time sparking conversation about how the field approaches safety planning when separation isn't an option for elder abuse survivors.

I'll be direct: our communities are under attack.

The administration's first executive order killed DEI programs across the federal government. Since then, Lunar New Year celebrations have been canceled. Affinity graduations honoring students of color, shut down in state after state. Florida just ensured this year's Haitian Flag Day will be the last. The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Legislation would eliminate birthright citizenship and erase the heritage sites that tell our stories.

They want us to forget. We refuse.
