ISANG BAGSAK: OUR STRUGGLES, OUR VOICES!
We are hosting a 2018 summer program (Isang Bagsak: Our Struggles, Our Voices) at the Filipino Community Center in the Excelsior District (4681 Mission St San Francisco, California 94112). Our program days will run every Thursday and Sunday from 12PM to 4PM, starting SUNDAY, JULY 8TH and ends THURSDAY, AUGUST 2ND.
The LFS Summer Program, Isang Bagsak: Our Struggles, Our Voices, provides an opportunity to learn and address the critical issues, questions, and concerns that youth and students have about the Filipino community locally, nationally, and internationally through educational discussions (Thursdays) and integration days (Sundays). Integration days consists of participants traveling to and directly integrating with other grassroots and community organizations in San Francisco.
Participants will also have the opportunity to to assist in Associate Professor in Sociology Dr. Valerie Francisco-Menchavez's research study, The CARE Project. Participants will engage in one-on-one interactions with Filipino caregivers who are participating in this research study, by helping them with a survey and learning the unique struggles they face. Often, Filipino migrants working as caregivers are at elevated risk for various health risks because of their occupation and worries about family in the Philippines. The CARE Project hopes to understand the experiences of caregivers working in their jobs, physical and mental health outcomes and being a migrant to the US through surveys and in-person interviews with Filipino researchers.
Sign up today or share with any youth/students who would be interested in our program @
