Castro/Upper Market CBD The Castro/Upper Market Community Benefit District (Castro CBD) is a 501 C3 non- profit organization.

Mission: Provide services that improve the quality of life in the neighborhood, emphasizing clean, safe, beautiful streets while promoting economic vitality, fostering the Castro’s unique district identity, and honoring its diverse history. Funding is provided by an assessment fee placed on the properties within the district footprint, and through grants and private donations. Services provided i

nclude sweeping the sidewalk and gutters in the district 365 days a year, quarterly steam cleaning, and graffiti removal. The Castro CBD also sponsors live outdoor performances, landscaping, greening and the creation of public spaces and security services.

Last night the and the HIV Action Network held a candlelight vigil to put a spotlight on the budget cuts to HIV/AIDS services. Not protecting the vulnerable = increased illness, misery, expense and death. The community said, fund HIV/AIDS services!

I have received so many calls asking about this kind soul, I thought I would post what I’ve been told. The sad news is Johnathan, (John-John, Johnny), died yesterday or Friday night after he collapsed on 17th St. CCOP was volunteering in Jane Warner Plaza for the annual Harvey Milk Day celebration, so, they were on the scene immediately trying to resuscitate him. The ambulance arrived very quickly, continued resuscitation efforts and took him to the hospital. Saturday morning I was informed he was deceased. The community suffers a loss when someone we all know or are familiar with dies. I always thought of Johnathan as a gentle soul, always smiled at my good morning or hello. Rest In Peace Johnathan.
