Sunny skies, big smiles, and fresh connections! ☀️🦒

Refugee & Immigrant Transitions hosted a fun-filled field trip to the zoo for local Ukrainian families in San Francisco. We served Ukrainian food to give the group a taste of home while enjoying time together and strengthening the bonds that make a community feel whole.

Good afternoon friends, neighbors, and community members. We hope you've been well and able to cherish the long summer days across The Bay 🌅🌊.

While we slowly make our way into August, RIT is readying for the new school year.

Remember picking out a folder in your favorite color, the sight of new notebooks, and the lingering scent of maple wood from number 2 pencils? A memory so many of us share. Your gift will help our refugee and immigrant students share the same joy for school readiness 🧡.

Do you enjoy running or walking? 🚶🏃‍♀️🏃Join us for the Golden Gate Half Marathon and 5K on Nov. 1st! Last year (our first year!) was a huge success, and we hope to continue that this year, too.

🌀 All fitness levels are welcome. You can choose to run/walk the half-marathon or 5K.
🌀 Each of the participants is asked to raise a minimum of $500. The first $250 covers your registration fee. The remaining funds will support RIT’s critical programming. Once you raise the minimum amount of $500, we will send you a special link to officially register for the race.
🌀This year, we will expand corporate team sponsorships. If your company or organization would like to sponsor your employee team or our youth team, please let us know!
🌀There will be opportunities for meet-ups and runs leading up to the race.

Taking full advantage of the arrival of Spring, we recently hosted a Spring picnic for our volunteers and home-based students. Thank you to everyone who attended, brought yummy food to share, and clothing to swap/donate. It has been a challenging period for our immigrant community, so these joyful moments with community feel even sweeter. 🌷🌻

RIT offers a home-based/one-on-one tutoring/mentoring program where we match a local volunteer with a newcomer student to help them learn English, build community, and navigate life in the US. We currently have 70+ long term volunteers supporting our students through our home-based, after-school, and daytime classroom support programs. To learn about our programs: reftrans.org/apply

Belated Eid celebration at RIT. It is a festive annual tradition at RIT. ✨

This event was organized by our amazing Wellness Support Team. The team hosts support groups, workshops, and events for our Afghan women students where they engage in deep conversations and activities about identity, culture, physical and mental health, wellness, refugee experiences, raising children in the US, dreams and goals.💜

We celebrated the event this year with music, fun kids activities (facepainting, soccer, and bracelet making) henna, delicious Afghan and Yemeni tea, pizza, and Afghan food (Qabuli palaw, kabab, saabji, and naan) from a community member’s restaurant called Kohandazh Kabob & Bakery. 😋
