We are having a bone marrow drive for Hanya Alwerfalli a 29 year old sister in our community at our next halaqa.
When: Friday April 20, 2012 at 6:30pm
Where: San Francisco State University
Building: Cesar Chavez Student Center in Rosa Parks Room
Here is a biography of the sister who we are having a bone marrow drive for.
Hanya Alwerfalli is a 29 year old with Leukemia. She has fought cancer three times and is currently undergoing many treatments , which she is responding to very well. At this point, Hanya is seeking a suitable match for a bone marrow transplant. She is a daughter, sister, and wife whom could very easily have been your daughter, sister, or wife.
And so we ask that you support this cause and be the match that can rid her of this disease. It is a simple cheek swab sample.
I really would like to stress and reiterate the importance of this event.
1) She was first diagnosed with this in her very early 20's....MANY of us are in our 20's this means that it could have been your friend, sister, brother, me, and YOU! Please do not go walk thinking this would and could "never happen to me." Because we all know that just how unlikely it was for it to happen to Hanya is just how much it could happen to you. And if this was you, you would want someone to help you look for your match. So with this, I implore you all to please come out to Berkeley Masjid THIS* Friday and give us literally 3 minutes of your time as we take a quick swab of your cheek and enter your information into the registry.
The BIGGEST misconception of this is that if you ARE* a match, then you have to undergo surgery or do some crazy operation to help give Hanya what it is she needs. That is not true at ALL! If you are the match, all that is needed is literally blood...nothing else. The painful part is on Hanya which is inserting the blood necessary in her body.
