📖 ⚽ Reading on the Pitch (ROTP) has empowered nearly 5,000 vulnerable children over 5 years through Sport for Protection 🌍. Using the universal language of football/soccer, we provide safe spaces for children to play, education even when classrooms are not accessible, and trauma healing practices — all on the pitch.

ROTP is currently running programming in Cairo, Egypt, supporting children from Gaza, Sudan, South Sudan, Egypt and beyond. 💛👟📚

Reading on the Pitch (ROTP) uses the universal language of football/soccer as Sport for Protection. We provide safe spaces for children to play, education without the need of a classroom, and trauma healing practices.
On the pitch, ROTP teaches both conversation and literacy through Total Physical Response, an educational methodology that uses coordination of language and physical movement, where children respond to commands that require body movement, helping them internalize the language more naturally.
For the past 3 years, ROTP has built programming in Cairo, Egypt, playing alongside children from Gaza, Sudan, South Sudan, Egypt, and neighboring countries. Through our trainer of trainers model, we have succeeded in widely disseminating our unique methodology and curriculum through a sustainable model of implementation. Our programs are both ongoing and scalable.

Over 100 kids from Palestine, South Sudan, and Sudan came together with our academy players for a day full of football, unity, and giving back. ⚽️❤️

Each child brought food items to donate—turning this into more than just a tournament. It was a food drive with purpose.

A massive thank you to Reading on the Pitch for bringing the day to life and aligning with Pyramids of Hope and Youth Support Volunteer Organization to make it all possible. 🙌🏽

Big love to on Wheels for keeping spirits high and handing out nearly 200 refreshing popsicles. 🍧🧊

Medals were awarded, smiles were everywhere, and a powerful message was shared: sport can unite us, inspire us, and drive change in our communities.

Reading on the Pitch’s (ROTP) newest initiative using the universal language of football (soccer) to unite players from around the globe has begun! Football (soccer) has the incredible ability to transcend culture, religion, and nationality, all for the love of the game.

In what is the first of many, ROTP is currently running a biweekly program where players from Sudan, South Sudan, and Egypt train and play competitive matches together. Through the leadership of coaches from Sudan, South Sudan, and Egypt, ROTP players are led by example through the observation of effective communication, respect, teamwork, cooperation, support, kindness, and joy.

Over the years, ROTP has successfully built long lasting relationships with the communities we work alongside, and through our model, we intend to foster cross-cultural friendships with our ROTP players from various programs through this beautiful game.

Reading on the Pitch (ROTP) is thrilled to continue collaboration into its third year with Awlady Orphanage and its second with Youth Support Volunteer Organization (YSVO). Ten coaches from the communities of Awlady and YSVO have been ROTP trained (with a junior coach in training) which has ensured sustainability, and in 2025 has enabled program expansion. Currently four Programs both in English and Arabic are being implemented, providing near 100 players ages 3-16 opportunity to read and play together on the pitch. Stay tuned for new players and programs on the horizon!

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work. Alongside Play Sports Academy, Youth Support Volunteer Organization (YSVO), and Awlady Orphanage, Reading on the Pitch collaborated on its FOURTH football tournament fundraiser. Our players from around the globe, ages 6-14 years, came together to enjoy a day filled with football and joy. Rice, oil, pasta, tuna, sugar, salt, flour, tea, milk, dates, among many other items, were donated to children and families, some displaced from their countries only two weeks ago. Thank you to YSVO for working tirelessly to support refugees from Sudan and South Sudan. Thank you to the staff at Awlady Orphanage for caring and loving our children daily. A massive thank you to Play Sports Academy for continuing to show up and share your hearts and PLAY for all. And thank you to Gelato on Wheelz for continuously bringing smiles with your delicious ice cream! This IS what it is all about.
