This month, we shine a light on Geetanshi Sharma, June’s Creative-In-Residence.✨

Geetanshi Sharma is a writer, educator, and accessibility specialist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in New Delhi, India, she immigrated to the U.S. at a young age and grew up across Oklahoma, Louisiana, and California. She holds a B.A. in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley and has taught creative writing at San Francisco State University. She previously worked at Microsoft as a product manager and accessibility specialist.

Her fiction and creative nonfiction explore chronic illness, disability, and q***rness through an Indian American lens. Her work has been supported by organizations such as the Tin House Speculative Workshop and the Napa Valley Writers Conference, and she has been a Creative in Residence at The Ruby since 2024. She is the creator of the international Disability Reading Challenge () and host of Characters Like Us (), a podcast about inclusive storytelling. She is currently working on her first novel.

Welcome to the Ruby, Geetanshi!

We hosted a transcription party alongside our friends at .press and were so into it, that these were the only two photos captured!

More about this project:
In 2025, the Center for Black Digital Research/ facilitated cross-country commemorations of the 200th birthday of legendary author and activist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825-1911): . As part of the series, organizers launched Transcribe Harper, a project aimed at connecting Harper’s work to a wide audience.

And that's what we did! We shared pizza and transcribed some of Harper's documents together. 💖

In mid April, we hosted The River Connects Us, a panel of South Asian writers all about the interwoven lives of plants, humans, and animals, an attention to the sacred, and explorations of ancestral knowledge. The panel featured Sangamithra Iyer ( ), Vijaya Nagaran, and Ruby Shruti Swamy!

Thank you to the transcendent for making this panel possible!
