This Saturday is our annual membership meeting!

Join us at the Fall Campout as The Friendly Ghosts take the stage at 6pm in Jackson Hall, followed by CBA’s annual membership meeting at 7pm—also livestreamed on our page for anyone who can’t be there in person.

We’ll be sharing a recap of the year, talking about what’s next for CBA, announcing the results of the board election, and explaining what the potential bylaw updates mean for the organization.

We’ll also take a moment to celebrate Pete Ludé’s retirement after seven years of leadership and welcome Helen Foley as CBA’s new executive director. Be there!

Fall Campout is in motion! Join us now through Sunday at the Lodi Grape Festival Grounds for a part small festival, part family reunion experience, with plenty of room to pick with old friends and make new ones.

Highlights still ahead this week: the ever-popular Wernick jam class, special train song jams led by Joyce Hennessey, and Saturday night show and annual membership meeting.

Tent campers don’t need to reserve, just pay at the gate when you arrive and pitch camp. RV campers can reserve their hookup spot online: californiabluegrass.org/cbaevent/fall-campout/

Please join us in welcoming Helen Foley as CBA’s new Executive Director! Helen’s story is really a CBA story—she grew up in our Youth Program and has spent the last year serving on the CBA board. Most recently, she was director of marketing and community programming for Hanna Center, a youth services and advocacy nonprofit in Sonoma County, and she’s a 2026 graduate of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Leadership Bluegrass program.

“Helen’s deep knowledge of the California bluegrass community, along with her business chops, are exactly the recipe we were looking for to keep building our string of wins,” said CBA Board Chair Ted Kuster.

Pete and Helen have been working closely on this transition for months, and Pete will stay involved to help ensure a smooth handoff. We’re thrilled for this next chapter. Thank you all for being part of this community that keeps choosing to grow together.

Big news: after seven years of leadership, Pete Ludé is retiring as the CBA’s Executive Director.

We are so grateful for all his hard work. His dedication led to the launch of Bluegrass Bridge, the BEAR Fund, Global Connections, Spectrum Bluegrass, the Afterschool Bluegrass Clubs, and the Julian Music Camp, plus a complete overhaul of our website, membership systems, and the Bluegrass Breakdown. He also steered the CBA through the pandemic with “Turn Your Radio Online,” raising over $40,000 to support bands and instructors who were out of work.

As CBA Chair Ted Kuster put it: “We couldn’t be more grateful to Pete for his visionary leadership over the last few years. He’s done an amazing job of bringing the people and resources together to set the CBA up for our next 50 years of growth and service.”

Don’t worry, you haven’t seen the last of him—he’ll still be around at festivals and campouts. In his own words: “I hate to say goodbye, so I’ll just say ‘so long.’”

Get your band a spot on a very special stage at CBA's Father's Day Festival! We are pleased to announce an open call for bands—from California and beyond—to appear on Vern's Stage at the 2027 CBA's Father's Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley.

Submissions are open now and will remain open until midnight, November 1, 2026.

We’re grieving together today over the loss of the incomparable Dolly Parton. A songwriter, storyteller, trailblazer, and generous spirit, Dolly’s influence on country, bluegrass, and American roots music is immeasurable.

Her songs brought generations together, and her legacy will continue every time they’re sung and played.

Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you. 💖
