The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association extends its thoughts and well wishes to the two San Francisco Police Department officers injured in the line of duty this morning while responding to a theft incident in the Nob Hill neighborhood. Reports indicate that both officers were struck by a vehicle during a foot pursuit and sustained injuries while attempting to apprehend a suspect. Fortunately, both officers are expected to recover.

Every day, law enforcement professionals place themselves in harm’s way to protect the communities we serve. Incidents like this serve as a reminder of the unpredictable dangers public safety personnel face while performing their duties.

On behalf of the SFDSA Executive Board and our membership, we wish these officers a full and speedy recovery and extend our appreciation to the first responders and medical personnel who assisted at the scene.

Stay safe and heal quickly.

The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of the San Francisco Police Officers Association following the shooting of an SFPD officer in the line of duty.

Every day, law enforcement professionals throughout San Francisco answer the call knowing that routine moments can become life-threatening in an instant. Last night’s incident is a sobering reminder of the risks our officers face while protecting the communities we serve.

We are grateful to hear that the injured officer is expected to recover, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to the officer, their family, partners, and the entire SFPD family during this difficult time.

To our members: incidents like this serve as an important reminder to remain vigilant, trust your training, utilize sound tactics, and continue looking out for one another. Whether assigned to custody, courts, patrol, transportation, investigations, or community programs, your safety must always remain the top priority.

The SFDSA proudly stands with the San Francisco Police Officers Association and all first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to keep our city safe.

Wishing the injured officer a full and speedy recovery.

The SFDSA would like to recognize Deputy Kinnear and our SFSO Cadets for stepping up to rescue a litter of kittens at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Moments like these highlight the compassion, teamwork, and community spirit our members bring to the job every day — both inside and outside of traditional public safety duties.

The SFDSA would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended and supported our event as we welcomed the new Executive Board.

We are especially grateful to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, San Francisco Sheriff's Office Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, Mayor’s Chief of Public Safety Steven Betz, and District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong for taking the time to speak and engage with attendees. Your presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between public safety professionals, city leadership, labor organizations, and the communities we serve.

Thank you as well to our fellow labor partners such as San Francisco Police Officers Association and IAFF Local 798, elected officials, community stakeholders, and supporters who joined us for the evening. Strong relationships and open communication remain critical as we continue advocating for safe working conditions, effective public safety policy, and the wellbeing of San Francisco’s communities.

We also want to recognize the members of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office and, most importantly, our families and loved ones — whose support and sacrifice make this work possible every day.

The SFDSA looks forward to moving forward with professionalism, partnership, and a renewed commitment to serving both our members and the people of San Francisco.

Thank you again to everyone who made the evening such a success.

This week, communities across the United States come together in observance of National Police Week — a time dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of fallen law enforcement professionals throughout our nation.

National Police Week serves as a reminder of the difficult and often dangerous work carried out every day by peace officers, deputy sheriffs, police officers, investigators, dispatchers, and public safety professionals who have committed themselves to protecting others. It is also a solemn opportunity to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving their communities.

The SFDSA joins organizations, agencies, and families across the country in honoring the fallen and recognizing the courage, professionalism, and dedication of America’s law enforcement community.

To all who wear the badge — and to the families who stand beside them — thank you for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to public safety.

The SFDSA proudly joins in congratulating the dedicated Cadets recognized today at the Board of Supervisors meeting for their professionalism, patience, and outstanding public service at San Francisco City Hall.

“Thank you for holding my bike.” — Supervisor Myrna Melgar“Thank you for being nice to people who don’t know what a metal detector is.” — Supervisor Stephen Sherrill“Thanks for asking how my day went.” — Supervisor Bilal Mahmood

These comments may seem simple, but they reflect something important — professionalism, kindness, and service matter. Our cadets are often the first people the public encounters when entering City Hall, and they continue to represent the Sheriff’s Office with grace, respect, and maturity.

The SFDSA is proud to second these congratulations and recognize the hard work these cadets put in every day to help keep our public spaces safe and welcoming.

The SFDSA has formally expressed concerns regarding the continued leadership of William Palmer on the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board following recent public reporting and the release of body-worn camera footage.
The SFDSA believes civilian oversight is important, but leadership within oversight institutions must also maintain professionalism, impartiality, sound judgment, and public trust.
Our concerns are not rooted in opposition to reentry advocacy or restorative justice. We recognize Mr. Palmer’s resilience and the importance of diverse perspectives in public policy discussions. However, public confidence in oversight leadership is essential for both the community and the employees subject to oversight.
The SFDSA respectfully believes restoring confidence in the Oversight Board requires new leadership and representation. Accordingly, the SFDSA respectfully requests that Mr. Palmer resign from the Oversight Board or that the Board of Supervisors move forward with the appropriate review and investigative process authorized under the San Francisco Charter.

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Today, we honor all mothers for the strength, love, and sacrifice they show every single day.

A special recognition goes out to the deputy sheriffs who are mothers—those who balance the demands of this profession with the responsibilities of raising families. Your commitment does not go unnoticed.

We also want to acknowledge those who adjusted plans, missed celebrations, or stepped in to ensure our facilities remain safe and operational. That level of dedication speaks volumes about who you are—not just as professionals, but as people.

To all the mothers in our community—whether at home, at work, or both—we wish you a joyful and well-deserved Mother’s Day. Thank you for everything you do.
