HealthRIGHT 360 joined providers, county partners, state leaders, advocates, and people with lived experience from across California in Long Beach for the 20th Annual California Department of Health Care Services Substance Use Disorder Integrated Care Conference.

Over three days, the conference created space for collaboration and sharing the innovative work happening across California to improve care for people who use drugs. Our team was proud to contribute to those conversations through four sessions focused on clinical care, workforce development, treatment access, retention, and approaches for supporting people who are not pursuing abstinence.

HealthRIGHT 360’s Walker McFarlan presented for the second year in a row, sharing lessons from the organization’s experience transitioning to fee-for-service and our approach to intentionally developing leadership and clinical capacity.

Christina Catipay, Evan Hoese, Ako Jacintho, and Britt Miazgowicz presented on optimizing Incidental Medical Services in residential treatment, highlighting how workflows and integrated medical care can strengthen clinical engagement and retention.

President & CEO Vitka Eisen, April Torres, and MaryAnn Swift presented on how treatment systems can reduce barriers, respond swiftly when someone is ready for care, and maintain connection during temporary transitions and stabilization.

Eisen also joined Brian Hurley of Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control and Brandon Fernandez of CRI-Help, Inc. for a panel on aligning services with readiness for non-abstinent clients. The discussion reinforced the importance of adapting models of care to individual health goals and supporting healthier choices while respecting people's autonomy and decisions about their own care.

Thank you to DHCS and Sacramento State's College of Continuing Education for bringing the field together, and congratulations on 20 years!

HealthRIGHT 360's Asian American Recovery Services team recently joined the County of Santa Clara Commission on the Status of Women in Gilroy for its Women’s Equality Day: Power and Community event.

Each year, the Commission commemorates the 1920 ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which secured women’s constitutional right to vote. The event brought together community members and organizations to share resources and reflect on the power of our collective voice and the importance of civic engagement and advocacy. Thank you to the Commission on the Status of Women and our partners at LEAD Filipino for bringing the community together!

Today, International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the people we have lost to overdose, the families and communities carrying that loss, and the people who have survived. We also recognize the peers, staff, clinicians, outreach workers, case managers, and other frontline professionals who help people who use drugs access and remain connected to dignified care.

At HealthRIGHT 360, this work is part of what we do every day. Overdose prevention includes the work of building relationships and making healthcare easier to reach through mutual aid, harm reduction, street medicine, sobering and respite, primary care, substance use disorder treatment, medications for opioid use disorder, contingency management, peer support, housing, and connections to the broader services people need.

We know overdose is preventable, and we know what works, but we cannot treat awareness as the endpoint. We need to keep expanding access to low-barrier, evidence-based care. We need public health messaging grounded in fact rather than stigma and fear. We need to listen to people who use drugs and center their experiences in the policies and programs designed to serve them. And we need to continue investing in the people who provide this lifesaving care.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a day to remember, but it is also a day to act.

On July 11, HealthRIGHT 360 staff and community volunteers in San Francisco spent One City Day giving back in two very different but meaningful ways.

At our Integrated Care Center, 25 volunteers assembled 480 hygiene kits, including 82 menstrual care kits. They also added handwritten notes of encouragement to make each kit a little more personal.

At our residential step-down program on Treasure Island, 18 volunteers helped build a new community garden, filling nine raised garden beds and 30 planters with flowers, herbs, and other local plants.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered with HealthRIGHT 360, participated in broader citywide efforts, donated, and helped make the day possible. We’re grateful for the time and care you brought to these projects.
