Check out this beautiful re-designed mural!
The original “When I Dream” mural was designed in 2000 by Precita Eyes Artists Susan Cervantes and Minna Eloranta, and painted with the Pomeroy Community. (See original mural on the last 2 photos)
In July of 2026, muralists Ellen Silva and Anna Richardson met with Pomeroy staff and Community to begin designing a part restoration to the weathered concrete wall and re-design of many elements in the mural to reflect the current numerous services offered at the center.
From left to right the mural depicts many of the activities that currently happen at Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center. The community includes children and adults using swimming pool to exercise and play, celebrations, music, ballet, movement, art, and sports.
The outdoor area shows a slide and swings, participants working together in garden surrounded by flowers, vegetables, chickens, birds and butterflies, followed by a humming bird, a “love” signed in ASL and a person using a laptop.
Many elements from the previous mural were kept but further developed as the programs at Pomeroy did 26 years later.
A wonderful organization to support! Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center is a San Francisco nonprofit located in the outer sunset neighborhood, adjacent to the San Francisco Zoo. They operate as a community day center for children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities and traumatic and acquired brain injuries (TBI/ABI). Their participants come to the Center daily and participate in educational classes, recreational programs and vocational services that encourage self development, independence and friendship.
Thank you to our leading veteran mural artist Ellen Silva for leading this project and training our newer muralist Anna Richardson, a active volunteer who has really shined and is stepping into our muralist family. These two artists worked with the pomeroy community to redesign, facilitated community mural painting days and varnished the mural.
Just wait and see until we start the next phase where Anna Richardson will lead a new mural project with the assistance of Ellen Silvia in the design process!
