On April 12th, we did something simple.

We opened the doors at The Pines in , invited the community in, and let people get to know IVO.

No big pitch. No formal agenda. Just a room full of curious people, honest conversation, and a shared night outโ€”made even better by the generosity of Tito's Vodka.

People came to learn more about who we are and what we're building. What happened instead is what always happens when you put good people in a room togetherโ€”they connected, they asked great questions, and they stuck around longer than planned.

That's IVO.

Thank you to Pines, Sausalito, for being such a welcoming host and to 's Handmade Vodka for fueling a genuinely great evening.

If you missed Paws & Pours, don't miss what's next. Follow IVO and stay in the loop.

Care looks different on everyone.

But a lot of the time, it starts with a mother.

Today we want to say something simple to the mothers who make IVO's work possibleโ€”the ones who volunteer, who advocate for animals, and who show their kids what it looks like to actually do something.

You don't do it for recognition. Most of the time no one's even watching.

That's exactly why we want to say it out loud today.

Thank you.

As we celebrate, our work carries on. The next East Bay clinic in Martinez is May 17โ€”another opportunity to bring essential vet care to pets and families who need it.

๐Ÿ’™ Happy Mother's Day from Team IVO.

The horses at Warm Springs don't fit neatly into any category.

Not owned. Not wild. Just range horsesโ€”and people who've cared for them across generations, holding them in because they take that responsibility seriously.

What was missing was a vet who kept showing up.

That's the story. Read it here: https://www.ivo.vet/blog/warm-springs-horses

๐Ÿพ World Veterinary Day โ€” for the people who make it happen.

Every treatment. Every training session. Every community that's healthier than it was before. None of it happens without people choosing to show up.

IVO's volunteer vets, students, and partners give their time and expertise to communities that need care most. Their work doesn't stop at the animalโ€”it reaches the family depending on that animal and the community built around both.

Today we say thank you. Genuinely.

And there's more on the way. ๐Ÿ“ Warm Springs Program โ€” coming soon. Stay connected.

We published a new blog, and it covers a side of veterinary work that rarely gets talked about.

"Beyond the Clinic" is about what happens when veterinary care is treated as infrastructure. Not just treatment.

Working animals that keep households afloat. Local professionals trained to sustain the work long after an organization leaves. Communities were more resilient because animal health and human health were addressed together.

This is what IVO is actually building. The blog explains it better than a caption can: ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.ivo.vet/blog/veterinarians

๐ŸŒ This Earth Day, it's all connected.

Healthy animals protect entire ecosystems, not just themselves. Less disease. Land used better. Communities that hold together when things get hard.

That's what One Health actually means in practiceโ€”animal health, environmental health, and human well-being working as one system.

At IVO, we see this directly. Working animals keep households running. Stronger local veterinary systems keep communities resilient long after we leave.
A healthier planet doesn't start with a slogan. It starts with showing up for the animals that make everything else work.

It all started with volunteering.

IVO was recently featured in The Nob Hill Gazette, highlighting 15 years of impact.

But at the heart of the story is something simple: IVO began with people choosing to volunteer. That spirit still defines the organization today.

Across programs, from local clinics to international outreach, the majority of the work is powered by volunteers.

Veterinarians sharing their expertise.
Technicians supporting care.
Students learning while serving.

They are not just part of the mission. They are the reason it continues.

And that same impact is happening right here at the East Bay Clinic in Martinez.

๐Ÿ“… Next clinic: April 19

If you missed the last clinic, thereโ€™s another opportunity to be part of this work either by supporting, sharing, or getting involved.

๐Ÿพ National Pet Day

Today, many of us are celebrating the animals who bring joy and companionship into our lives.

But in places like Tanzania, Kenya, Nepal, the Philippines, California, and Oregon, access to veterinary care can still be limited.

Through IVOโ€™s work, animals receive essential care while local veterinary professionals are trained to continue that work within their own communities.

Because animal health is connected to human well-being, livelihoods, and stronger communities.

Thatโ€™s the heart of the One Health approach.

This National Pet Day, we want to thank you for your support that helps care reach animals who need it most, wherever they are, because every pet deserves a healthy life no matter where they live.

Hereโ€™s something most people donโ€™t realize about IVO programs.

Across our programs, from the East Bay Clinic in Martinez, to outreach efforts in underserved communities around the world, the majority of the people delivering care are volunteers.

Yes, volunteers.

Veterinarians offering their expertise.
Technicians supporting every procedure.
Students stepping in to learn and serve at the same time.
They are not just part of the system. They are the system.

This is what makes IVOโ€™s work possible.

Because when people choose to give their time and skills, access to veterinary care expands far beyond what would otherwise be possible.

So behind every treated animalโ€ฆ
There is a volunteer who made it happen.

To all our volunteers across every program, thank you for being the heart of this mission.

At Warm Springs, caring for horses means caring for the community.

Many horses on the Warm Springs Reservation face ongoing challenges, including overpopulation and limited access to veterinary care.

International Veterinary Outreach developed the Warm Springs Program to help address these challenges while working in partnership with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Department of Range and Agriculture.

The program provides:

โ€ข Veterinary services for horses
โ€ข Hands-on training for veterinary students
โ€ข Collaboration with local partners
โ€ข Support for long-term herd health

Together, these efforts help reduce animal suffering while strengthening the well-being of both horses and the community.

The next Warm Springs program will take place May 9โ€“10.
Stay connected as we prepare for another opportunity to support the horses of Warm Springs.

KALAKARI'S STORY Martinez Clinic Program | IVO | March 8th, 2026

Something had to give, and they were running out of time.

A small family with a young child had been watching their golden doodle Kalakari closely for days, knowing that every morning without action carried a risk they were not prepared to handle. Kalakari had started her heat cycle.

The window to act was closing fast. A spay surgery by experienced veterinary professionals was urgently needed, and the cost felt completely out of reach.

But this story did not begin in a moment of crisis. It began at a Golden Doodle rescue ranch nearby, where a small family walked in curious and walked out completely changed. They locked eyes with a fluffy bright-eyed girl, and that was the end of the conversation.

Kalakari came home with them that very same afternoon. She became their young child's closest companion almost immediately and the heartbeat of a family that made a quiet promise that day to care for her as best as they possibly could no matter what it took.

They meant every word of that promise. But meaning it and affording it are two very different things.

Weeks later, the urgency arrived, and it could not be ignored. Kalakari had started her heat cycle, and every day without surgery meant one more risk this small family was not equipped to face.

As a family with a young child at home, they were already stretching every dollar carefully. They were committed to Kalakari. They showed up for her every single day. They just could not afford to save her when it mattered the most.

Then a friend mentioned five words that changed everything: "IVO's Martinez Spay & Neuter Clinic"

Before March 8th, they made that nervous call to IVO, not knowing what to expect but holding onto the only option they had left. Their one request was clear and simple. That Kalakari would be treated safely by experienced veterinary professionals who genuinely cared about animals and the families who loved them.

What happened next is exactly why this program exists. On March 8th, 2026, Kalakari walked through the doors of the Martinez Clinic. Her family had kept the house calm that morning. Her young child had waited patiently.

And a fluffy golden doodle with absolutely no idea how many people had fought for her wagged her tail all the way through that door.

She still does.

"They loved her. They just could not afford to save her. Until you showed up."

The Martinez Clinic by IVO makes professional veterinary care accessible to families who love their pets deeply but face real financial barriers. Every donation is a family that gets to keep its promise. Every contribution is a young child who does not lose their best friend.

Kalakari gets to grow old with the child who adores her because generous people like you chose to give.
