🪷🎬 PARAMITA, directed by Kirthi Nath, is having its Oakland premiere on June 12!

FCSF is proud to be the fiscal sponsor for this film.

Opening Doorways for Belonging and Liberation is a special community event featuring the film PARAMITA and a healing workshop that invites us to slow down and explore what it means to belong — to ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

The evening weaves together meditation, sacred reflection, community care circles, rituals and a screening of PARAMITA, a poetic documentary that bears witness to Prajna Choudhury’s 25-year coming out journey with her traditional Bangladeshi mother and her connection to Buddhist practices and nature as gateways for acceptance and intergenerational healing.

PARAMITA has screened internationally at more than 35 film festivals, and we are thrilled to celebrate its hometown Oakland premiere and companion healing workshop at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center. Local filmmaker and meditation teacher Kirthi Nath will be present to facilitate the film screening and healing workshop.

Topic: Getting Unstuck - how can you get back on track when progress seems elusive?

The independent filmmaking process always has its ups and downs.
Sometimes the “downs" can lead to entropy, bringing progress on your film to a halt.

“Fundraising seems impossible!”
“I don’t have time because I’m too busy trying to make a living!”
“The story isn’t working - but I’m not sure how to make it better?”

We will address these challenges and more with practical strategies to help you push through the walls and find your energy to move forward.

Join a supportive group of peers to discuss your challenges and share your suggestions with others!

☕ First Thursday Drop-in is an opportunity for FCSF members to meet each other virtually, learn about each other’s projects, and build community.

Fútbol goes beyond stadiums, chants, and mainstream representations. This frenzied devotion is a form of introspection, as fans find a sense of belonging, and at times, sense of understanding amid political and social events shaping their communities. Past, present or future, this program proposes that we give meaning to games and study them as part of the fabric of our identity.

Starting with a selection of Latin American short films, the screening will also feature a work-in-progress teaser of the upcoming documentary , a film about San Francisco City FC, the oldest community-owned fútbol club in the US, and the heart of its supporters. The program will end with a Bay Area Fútbol Panel moderated by journalist () with special guests to talk about & local fútbol culture.

❗️You’re encouraged to wear your fútbol shirts, scarves, and flags
