Community Youth Center of San Francisco Since 1970, CYC has set the standard for awareness and activism in the Asian community.

For over 55 years, Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) has provided the diverse youth of our city a sense of belonging and vital tools and experiences to succeed in life. Originally founded to address the problems of juvenile delinquency and gang violence in Chinatown, CYC has grown to encompass behavioral health, education, intervention, leadership development, street outreach and workf

orce development in all our programs. We offer services directed at responding to the complex set of issues the youth in our community face including acculturation, difficulties in school, economic hardship, substance abuse, and gang involvement. Our educational enrichment, leadership building, and job-readiness programs have earned CYC a unique reputation as a key agency for Asian youth services in San Francisco.

For many students in Youth for Community Engagement, it’s the relationships. Through visits with seniors and community events across San Francisco, volunteerism becomes connection, and connection becomes community.

Today, we celebrate 78 graduating seniors from C*C programs across San Francisco.
As they take their next steps, whether at community colleges, universities, or new opportunities beyond high school, they carry with them the relationships, experiences, and support that helped shape their journey.
During AAPI Heritage Month, we were honored to celebrate alongside Golden State Valkyries guard Kaitlyn Chen, who shared reflections on hard work, community, and what’s possible when people believe in you.

What responsibility do we have to one another?

It’s a question students in the Racial Justice Cohort spent the year exploring. This spring, they put their answer into action by organizing a care package and food distribution event at the Bayview YMCA for unhoused and low-income community members.

Through food, hygiene supplies, and handwritten notes, youth showed what community care can look like when people choose to show up for one another.

The phoenix has awakened.

We were grateful to gather with community members, partners, and our Dragon Boat community this morning to celebrate this important milestone. Thank you to Mabel Jung, Dorothy Yeung, APA Heritage Foundation President Claudine Cheng, CDBA President Chris Chang, District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong, District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen, Sheriff Miyamoto and members of the Sheriff’s Department, and everyone who helped make this moment possible.

Having a permanent home for our boats and a continued presence in the community means a great deal to our team and youth.
