June, the gateway to Summer...🍓🍍🍉

We had a short week, but one that was full of love, laughter and a mix of emotions. 🏩

For some of us, it was our last snack shift, or our final time well spent with the students, other working parents, teachers and with our very own child(ren) in the classroom. 🚸

For many of us, NVNS will forever be a cherished place with its own rhythm spanning over half a century! 🎶

Take a look at some tender moments shared within the past few days, including our Garden Grad Gala to celebrate the unique friendships built over the school year(s). 💐🎓

Here's to a safe, fulfilled journey ahead, little butterflies! 🦋 And farewell to our friends and vibrant community...🪁

We ended the month of May at Noe Nursery with Jammies Day! ✨ Some of the kids have traditionally brought their stuffies in to cuddle and packed breakfast food for lunch on this occasion. 🧸🥞

"Cassidie's Wonder Lab" and our students continued their kitchen science experiment by making oobleck! 👩🏼‍🔬 The coolest thing about the substance is that it's neither a liquid or a solid. 🌽💧

Squeeze oobleck in your palm and it will feel like a solid ball, but when you open your hand, it will flow over and between your fingers like a liquid! 🤲🏼

We've got pictures to showcase as the children were also able to play with different cameras and photographic film rolls in class. 📸 Remember those analog times?! 🎞️

Check out these ice orbs created by our students with the help from our teachers! 🥶

Water balloons were frozen then drizzled with food coloring and salt, to show the different effects and their phase transitions from solid to liquid. 🧊❄️💧

Looking at these frosted spheres, have the children visualize our Solar System with its moons and planets, including ice giants like Neptune and Uranus. 🌝

How about with comets that when they're near the Sun, the ice vaporizes creating a glowing cloud of gas and dust and sometimes even a tail? ☄️

What comes to mind when you're doing this experiment with your kiddos? Share their astronomical ideas here...💭

This is our last field trip of the school year at Mother's Meadow and Blue Heron Lake, but won't be our last potluck! 🚣‍♀️🧺

The kiddos hiked to see Huntington Falls' 110-foot cascade from Strawberry Hill Island, and even passed the Stone and Roman Bridges of the late 1800s. 🏞️

💡Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that...

This wooded hill was named for the wild strawberries that once flourished on its flanks? 🍓

This lake is Golden Gate Park’s largest body of water? 🛟

And these shoreline trails climb to the hill’s summit, which is the highest point in the park at more than 400 feet? 🧗‍♀️

To all the teachers who have educated and inspired us and our children, we not only express our sincere gratitude to you this Teacher Appreciation Week, but you will forever hold a very dear place in our hearts! 💐

This week, the students have been kneading dough and baking fresh bread out of the oven, as well as learning about the Butterfly's Life Cycle. 🥖 Here's to observing them develop, adapt and transform over the remaining course of the school year…🦋

And wishing every loving mother or motherly figure in your lives a warm Mother's Day Sunday! 💕

It's Planet Earth Day! Our home, sweet home...🌎

Throughout the year, the students have been going on nature walks and cultivating their community garden bed weekly. They lend their helping hands in de-weeding, composting, sowing seedlings and starter plants as well as collecting rain water. 🪱🐝💧

We've harvested lettuces and potatoes, gathered lemons and apples, and made mint tea. The children have re-homed some worms and even an oversized lavender tree for the bees! 🥬🍅🍋🍏🍵🪻

Today, we made art from fallen flowers, twigs, and from re/using other recycled materials. ❇️🌸

Take care of Mother Earth and she will take care of you...💚🩵

It's a good Friday with lots of sensory play in our Zone 4: Outdoor Patios! 🫧⛱️🪨 Bubbles, sand, dirt, chalk? You name it, we've most likely got 'em! 🚵🏻🛻🎣

The kiddos were also able to meet their heroes of SF Fire Station 26, Diamond Heights' pride since circa 1890. 🚒🔔📢 They enjoyed learning about the important work these firefighters do to keep our communities safe, not to mention ringing the engine bell and spraying the water hose. 👨🏾‍🚒🧑🏻‍🚒🪜

Getting into the zone here in our Area 3 for some make-believe and STEAM discoveries for kids! 🎭🧲

The children love to pretend play in our loft kitchen running a bakery shop, or at the lookout tower scoping the classroom from above. 🥧🔭

This precious magical world is all theirs to nurture and lead the way...🦸‍♀️🌈🦸🏿‍♂️

Each week, our Director Johana or staff teacher Cassidie provides the parent teachers with a curriculum guide. 💡🔎

NVNS has an eclectic and emergent program that includes elements of the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasises community and group-based learning, as well as focuses on being responsive to the children's interests. ⚙️🧩

Let's explore Zone 2, where activities to develop motor and early literacy skills include manipulatives, puzzles, games, blocks, and themed books that are readily accessible in our comfy reading nook! 📖🛋️

This week, our class hosted one of many Culture Shares that we welcome throughout the year. 🙌🏻 The children are able to experience their traditions being honored by the whole community. 🫶🏻

We got to see a heartfelt presentation from an NVNS' family about Norouz (Persian New Year), which coincided with the arrival of Spring on Thursday (a time to celebrate renewal)! 🌱🪻

We also pinned a world map, a work in progress, of where our families are from. The kids' sense of selves grows as they can observe their ancestral roots through a visual representation.📍

At Noe Nursery, we love getting to know and understand each other better and that includes recognizing our cultural diversities and celebrating inclusiveness! 🗺️
