A San Francisco motorcycle officer was injured after being struck by a big rig near SFO while on duty.

“While we’re grateful the officer’s injuries were not more serious, this incident is another reminder of the hazards officers face every day while working to keep our city safe,” said SFPOA President Louis Wong.

We wish the officer a full and speedy recovery and thank all first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities.

SFPD Motorcycle Officer Struck by Big-Rig Truck, Sustains Minor Injury

An SFPD motorcycle officer was injured in a traffic collision this morning (6.15.26) after a big-rig truck pulled in front of him as he was traveling on a roadway near San Francisco International Airport.

Fortunately, the officer only suffered a sprained ankle, was treated at a local hospital, and has since been released. The truck driver was cited at the scene.

While we're grateful the officer’s injuries were not more serious, this incident is another reminder of the hazards officers face every day while working to keep our city safe.

Coming on the heels of two San Francisco police officers who were struck by a vehicle while attempting to arrest a suspect at Trader Joe's, these incidents underscore the risks law enforcement officers encounter both on our streets and during routine duties. We wish our injured officer a full and speedy recovery."

Statement from SFPOA President Louis Wong on Two Officers Struck by SUV During Violent Struggle with Suspect at Hyde and California Streets in San Francisco

The two San Francisco Police officers injured Friday after being struck by an SUV while engaged in a violent struggle with a suspect near Hyde and California Streets have been treated for their injuries at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

The veteran field training officer was released from the hospital as was the trainee officer, but the trainee officer was later re-admitted for further medical care. Thankfully, both are expected to make a full recovery despite painful injuries.

The officers are deeply shaken by this traumatic incident and are fortunate to be alive.

What began as a routine call quickly escalated into a dangerous and chaotic situation that highlights the unpredictable risks our officers face every day. During a violent struggle with a suspect in the middle of the street, both officers were struck head-on by a passing vehicle, with one officer pinned beneath the SUV before being rescued.

SFPOA (https://sfpoa.org/) is grateful to their fellow SFPD officers, members of the San Francisco Fire Department, emergency medical personnel, and others who responded immediately and worked tirelessly to provide aid and ensure the officers received the care they needed. Their professionalism, teamwork, and quick actions made a critical difference in their wellbeing.

The SFPOA is relieved that both officers are recovering with their families. We ask the public to keep them, their loved ones, and all first responders involved in this incident in their thoughts as the recovery process continues.

Our officers put themselves in harm's way every day to protect the people of San Francisco. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers they face in the line of duty and how quickly routine police work can turn life-threatening.

As comes to a close, the SFPOA wants to thank the men and women of the San Francisco Police Department for their continued service, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our city. This week, we honored the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty
