Juggling Parenthood + Creative Work

Working mamas and parents in the arts, this is for us and our allies!

RSVP today to hold your childcare spot! More details below.

SFFILM and Working Assumptions invite you to join us for an evening of personal conversations about the juggling act of creative work and parenting, particularly for independent filmmakers in the Bay Area. Julie Parker Benello, founder of Secret Sauce Media and co-founder of Chicken & Egg Pictures, will moderate a discussion with Jane Gottesman, founder of Working Assumptions, and local filmmakers A-lan Holt, Tamara Perkins, and Cyrus Tabar. We’ll explore our shared challenges, lessons learned, opportunities, resources, and actions for the film community. The evening will include time for Q & A and audience participation.

All welcome and encouraged to join!

This is tomorrow! Support this film at Roxie Theater! Q/A after screening with Josephine Decker!

“This is one of the boldest and most invigorating American films of the 21st century…” — IndieWire. Madeline (breakout newcomer Helena Howard) has become an integral part of a prestigious physical theater troupe. When the workshop’s ambitious director (Molly Parker) pushes the teenager to weave her rich interior world and troubled history with her mother (Miranda July) into their collective art, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur. The resulting battle between imagination and appropriation spirals out of the rehearsal space and rips through all three women’s lives.

Go see the female-driven breakout indie film of the year, opening at the Roxie Aug. 24th! Written and directed by a woman, starring three female leads, with a majority female crew (producers, cinematographer, art director, production designer, editor, composer) -- this is the kind of film that we need to champion and support through ticket sales! with your networks!
