Contrary to popular belief, lions are quite skilled at climbing trees!

These cubs just might need a little bit more practice.

In the animal kingdom, solitude is the norm for big cats—except for the lion. They roam the savannah together in social groups known as prides. These families usually range from 4 to 13 members, but where prey is plentiful, they can reach numbers as high as 30.

At the heart of the pride are fierce female bonds. Female lions hunt in perfect coordination and raise their cubs as a collective, while the males focus on territory defense. Ultimately, it’s the deep, lifelong bonds between these females that ensure the legacy of the pride endures.

Inspiration for the weekend 💤

On average, a lion will rest or sleep for 16-20hrs a day, conserving valuable energy for hunting. As very social cats, lions spend their nap time lazing together, often grooming each other and purring.

There are boundless opportunities to marvel at lions.
Lions are extremely organized, strong, and strategic hunters who work as a team to sustain the pride. Russell MacLaughlin captured this mid-chase moment of a lioness advancing on her prey, a view that showcases how powerful and focused she is during the hunt.

Even for those who observe lions regularly, each lion sighting still brings excitement and a sense of awe.
The lions seen here are Nemambai and another individual from the Twin Hills Sister pride.

A mystery, a reunion, and a new beginning.
An exciting update from the Lion Guardians team. When the dominant males in their monitoring area went quiet, their Guardians noticed something unusual: fresh tracks of a new pair. After some expert tracking, the mystery was solved, and it’s a homecoming they didn’t see coming.

Meet Lolongwapi (which means 'the one who moves through several areas'). He’d been missing since his dispersal stage in 2022. He has finally reemerged, and he didn’t come back alone. He’s reunited with a female last seen a year ago near the Tanzania border.

The best part? She appears to be heavily pregnant. They're expecting new cubs to join the ecosystem within the next two weeks. A hopeful story bringing new excitement to the Lion Guardian's conservation efforts.
