Sustainable Conservation

Sustainable Conservation Sustainable Conservation helps California thrive by uniting people to solve the toughest challenges facing our land, air and water. California deserves better.

Too often, conflict overshadows common ground when solving environmental problems. For decades, fighting it out in court or the state house has been the default approach to addressing tough challenges facing California’s land, air, and water. Each conflict deepens the distrust and animosity between environmental groups and business, while the pressure on our vital natural resources only increases.

When we unite all those who are affected by a problem, understand their perspectives, and find common ground, we succeed in stewarding the resources we all depend on for a thriving future.

"Sustainable Conservation’s team is hard at work to scale recharge and its multi-benefit opportunities. Recharge allows us to capture water in wet years, store it underground, and make it available in dry years."

Hear from Sustainable Conservation's Water for the Future Senior Director, Richael Young, on why groundwater is more important than ever.

Together with panelists from General Mills, East Turlock Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agency, and EcoThrive Farm Management, we explored how farmer engagement, science, and policy can work together to advance and expand sustainable agriculture across California. The conversation examined how growers, researchers, water managers, and industry partners are finding common ground to support soil health and groundwater sustainability under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

Healthy soils are vital to water reliability, climate resilience, and the long-term productivity of California agriculture. However, scaling soil health prac...

Landscape-scale restoration delivers an incredible return on investment for ecosystem and habitat benefits, flood protection, and natural resource conservation. In Sustainable Conservation’s latest edition of Thrive California, we explore how restoration-specific permitting has unlocked speedier and more affordable restoration across California. Learn more about how Sustainable Conservation connects the dots between permitting, agencies, and restorationists in the newsletter!
