In less than five months during the 2025-26 school year:
• First graders meeting grade-level expectations more than doubled (8% → 17%)
• Second graders nearly tripled (10% → 27%)

In partnership with and incredible summer providers across the city, this work is helping ensure students have access to high-quality learning opportunities all year long.

High-impact tutoring is the single most effective literacy intervention we have, and this expansion allows us to do what we know works. Thank you Mayor Daniel Lurie for your ongoing support of San Francisco students and for championing this critical expansion.

In partnership with San Francisco Unified School District and San Francisco Department of Children, Youth & Their Families, this week we announced a major expansion of high-impact literacy tutoring!

This is what’s possible when public investment and private philanthropy come together around what works -- and when we stay focused on equity, early literacy, and measurable results.

Read more in KQED about how this partnership is helping more students build the skills they need to thrive: https://www.kqed.org/news/12070455/sf-schools-expand-tutoring-program-to-get-more-students-reading-at-grade-level

New city funding will allow San Francisco’s school district to clear waitlists for the private tutors and more than double the number of students participating.

Big news for San Francisco students! 📚

In partnership with San Francisco Unified School District and San Francisco Department of Children, Youth & Their Families, we are expanding high-impact literacy tutoring to reach 2,700+ students across 20 public elementary schools through provider Chapter One — clearing waitlists and focusing support during the most critical years for learning to read.

This model works. In schools supported last year, students meeting grade-level reading standards more than doubled in just five months.

With strong public partnership, clear goals, and close collaboration with district leaders and educators, we’re delivering real, measurable gains for students who benefit most from support.
