📚 A lot has to happen before a classroom looks like a classroom.

Books need organizing. Furniture needs moving. Bulletin boards need hanging. Supplies need a home. And SFUSD educators are given just one paid day to pull it all together.

On August 14, we can help make that day a little lighter. If you can spare three hours, come lend a hand.

A classroom feels different when it has been prepared with care. 💛

Next Friday, volunteers will help SFUSD educators create spaces that feel welcoming, organized, and ready for students. Cleveland Elementary and Guadalupe Elementary still need the most support when it comes to setting up classrooms and supporting educators.

Three hours can help a teacher feel less alone, and help students begin the year in a space made ready for them.

With just one paid day to prepare their classrooms for the entire school year, SFUSD teachers have a lot to accomplish in very little time.

On Friday, Aug. 14, spend just three hours volunteering with us during Back-to-School Setup Day. Teachers from 39 public schools have requested support with organizing classrooms, decorating bulletin boards, moving furniture, and more before students arrive. We need 300 volunteers to help make it happen.

Every student deserves to feel like they belong, especially when they’re starting over in a new country.

NBC BAY AREA recently highlighted the Lee Family Legacy Newcomer Grants, a new initiative made possible by Pamela A. Lee’s $375,000 commitment over the next five years. Through our Educator Impact Grant program, this investment will provide direct funding to educators at Priority Schools to create projects and experiences that help newcomer students feel welcomed, supported, and connected from day one.

Thank you to Pamela A. Lee for this incredible investment in San Francisco students, and to NBC Bay Area for helping shine a light on this important work.

High-impact tutoring is the single most effective literacy intervention we have, and this expansion allows us to do what we know works. Thank you Mayor Daniel Lurie for your ongoing support of San Francisco students and for championing this critical expansion.
