With homelessness in SF getting worse year after year, a new coalition called the Urban Alliance says they are determined to make a meaningful change💥

Urban Alliance brings together 32 partners from both the public and private sectors. Its public-private funding model differentiates it from previous attempts to stop homelessness❌

According to the Bay Area Council’s 2022 Poll, when asked what the most important problem facing the Bay Area right now, 24% listed homelessness as their first response, while another 21% listed housing and another 10% listed cost of living🌁

➡️ Bay Area Council CEO Jim Wunderman said in a statement: "It’s imperative that we listen to what residents are saying and focus intensely.”

San Mateo is on track to become the 1st Bay Area county to reduce its unsheltered homeless population to “functional zero"👏🏼

Basically, this means that as soon as a person hits the streets, they can be moved indoors🏠

Could this approach be spread to other counties?✨

70 tiny homes have been constructed on Gough Street, on a lot owned by a developer waiting for construction permits to build a condo tower 🏠

Each tiny house has a twin bed, electricity, a heater, and a door that locks 🔒

This temporary tiny-house village is the work of a pandemic-born nonprofit called 👏🏼

As of this week, 12 houses are complete and people are moving in, but all 70 will be occupied sometime this spring 🌸

UC Berkeley, city and nonprofit collaborators unveiled plans to provide interim housing at a converted motel, as well as meals and social services, to unsheltered people sleeping in the iconic People’s Park🌳

The grant comes from Newsom’s Homekey initiative, which helps cities, counties and nonprofits create homeless housing🏠

Construction on the Alameda project will start this spring and is expected to take about 8 months⏳

The units are intended as interim housing, where residents can live while they’re awaiting a permanent housing placement!

In San Francisco, 331 homeless died during the first 12 months of the coronavirus pandemic🦠

An increase from 128 deaths in 2016 to 147 deaths in 2019📈

The main causes that explain this massive increase are:
1. More drug overdoses
2. More traumatic injuries (su***de and homicide)
3. Harder chronic medical conditions

While homelessness is increasing across all genders, the number of individual women living outside has risen faster in California than any other state!

Chronically homeless women are one of the most significantly at-risk populations for violence and traumatic events.

74% of transgender women experiencing homelessness have a history of domestic violence.

Did you know that the operations at Netgap are women-led?🙌🏼
Along with our founder, we have a team of 5 women volunteers who are making things happen behind the scene!
