Even our haters are moving on! We’re thrilled that more of our Sunset neighbors are discovering Sunset Dunes as the incredibly popular park it is, every day of the week. And it’s only getting better!

This month, visitors at Sunset Dunes joined the Roving Ranger for a hands-on exploration of how climate change and sea level rise are transforming our coastline and affecting the dunes and wildlife, including our favorite snowy plovers, that share this beach with us.

While the snowy plovers are currently away nesting, they’ll return to Ocean Beach in July. When they’re back home, we can help protect them by keeping a safe distance from the dunes and keeping all recreational activities (from walking and running to baseball and beach play) on the damp sand near the shoreline or at Sunset Dunes park.

🎉🎶 Thank you to everyone to came to Ploverfest this weekend! We had an incredible time celebrating the one-year anniversary of Sunset Dunes with the community that made the park possible. We appreciate all of you!

When Sunset Dunes opened a year ago, it made history as California’s largest pedestrianization project, creating a 2-mile, 50-acre oceanside park stretching from Sloat Boulevard to Lincoln Way.

Since then, it’s become a vibrant gathering place where people of all ages come to play, relax, bike, skate, walk, run, and connect by the coast.

Longtime San Francisco residents Susan (left) and Carol Jean (right) recently stopped by to take it all in.

Susan, who lives nearby, shared that the park offers a “sense of freedom and calm” as she strolled with her dog along the ocean.

“Sunset Dunes is my favorite park,” added Carol Jean, noting the joy and energy she sees in visitors.

The two especially loved the park’s creative installations, which they said bring people together and strengthen the sense of community.

“There’s so many structures here to admire,” Carol Jean said, adding that her favorite is the Wave Heart, located at Judah Street. “You can look through the heart and express your love for everyone.”

Join us this Sunday for the rescheduled PloverFest, celebrating Sunset Dunes’ one-year anniversary. Enjoy live music, a kids’ zone, a youth stage, and more from noon to 4 p.m.

Bringing car traffic to one of our most popular parks isn’t a compromise; it’s a closure. We’re not done fighting for Sunset Dunes. Follow us to stay informed as this develops.

Just in: Supervisor failed to get the required signatures from fellow Supervisors to place another ballot measure targeting Sunset Dunes before SF voters.

It’s time to move forward and focus on improving our coastal park together. SF has made a decision, and the park is here to stay.

With this latest failure, the decision has been made at the ballot box, upheld in court, and rejected repeatedly by the public and elected officials. Sunset Dunes is open, popular, and functioning exactly as voters intended.
