The International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) is honored to partner on the Transition Minerals Symposium currently being held in in Tucson, Arizona, joining Indigenous leaders, community representatives, advocates, and experts to examine the growing impacts of the global demand for transition minerals.

These photos capture moments from the gathering, including Indigenous cultural presentations, participant discussions, and panel sessions that highlighted both the challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous Peoples as governments and industries pursue the energy transition.

The summit reaffirmed a critical message: the transition to renewable energy must not come at the expense of Indigenous Peoples' rights, lands, waters, cultures, or the principle of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). A just transition requires Indigenous leadership, respect for self-determination, and recognition that Indigenous knowledge and stewardship are essential to protecting the Earth for future generations.

IITC emphasizes that the Agreement’s promise now depends upon its implementation in a manner that fully respects the internationally recognized rights, knowledge systems, and self-determined participation of Indigenous Peoples.
