San Francisco Muslim Community Center

San Francisco Muslim Community Center The San Francisco Muslim Community Center was founded in 1978 by African American Muslims who identify with the leadership of Imam W.

Our mission at the San Francisco Muslim Community Center (SFMCC) is to nurture the growth of faith and to cultivate a healthy and dignified community life grounded in the guidance of the Qur’an and the example of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Deen Mohammed (America's Imam), whose scriptural insights brought great clarity to those seeking to apply the teachings of Al-Islam to chart their cou

rse within American society. In 1981 the SFMCC incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) religious corporation, exclusively for religious purposes which include educational and social services addressing the comprehensive needs of its Muslim constituents in the San Francisco Bay Area, and to the serve the needs of humanity at large when it is feasible and within the scope of our mission. The Muslim population in San Francisco has been constantly in flux. Our initial service focused on the African American practitioners of Islam but expanded to include the diverse Muslim population of San Francisco including Arabs, Africans, Pakistanis, indigenous converts including Europeans, Latinos, and many other too numerous to detail in this pamphlet. We have officiated over 150 marriages. Hundreds of converts and reverts to Islam have learned the fundamentals of our faith, through classes and studies which enable adherents to have a functional knowledge and application of the requisite of Islamic social and ethical behavior as well as spiritual duties such as bearing witness to Allah, prayers, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage. We ask in the Allah's name for your generosity and support in this endeavor. If you require more information please contact: Nai'l Shakoor, Imam SFMCC, [email protected]

Ramadan 2026 Reflection: A Message from the SFMCC Board President

As-Salaamu Alaikum,

We thank each of you who have come out and shared in these blessed nights with us. May Allah shower His mercy upon us all, accept our fasting, our prayers, and every act of sincere worship in this sacred month.

We invite you to join us for our final Ramadan gathering tonight at the San Francisco Muslim Community Center. Let us come together once more in remembrance, gratitude, and fellowship.

More than anything, let us remember: the relationships we are building with one another are far more valuable than any resources we may exchange. What we offer each other in presence, in care, and in sincerity is greater than anything material. These relationships are not static—they grow, they deepen, and they unfold in ways we cannot always foresee when they are nurtured with intention and sincerity.

During Ramadan, we have been brought closer together for the purpose of drawing nearer to our Lord. Seeing one another more often, greeting one another more intentionally, standing shoulder to shoulder—this is not something to leave behind or take lightly. It is something to carry forward.

Let us not allow this spirit to fade. Let us continue this fellowship beyond Ramadan. In our togetherness is our strength. In our communication is our growth. In our service to others is our success.

May Allah keep us united in goodness and increase us in faith, understanding, and love for one another.

We look forward to seeing you tonight, insha’Allah.

In Community,
Jason Ross Brown (Salah Abu Muna)

Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim, San Francisco Muslim Community Center Receives FAITHS Grant

The San Francisco Muslim Community Center (SFMCC) is grateful to share that we have received $20,000 in general operating support through the FAITHS program of the San Francisco Foundation

We received this news during the blessed month of Ramadan as our community entered the final ten nights, a sacred period for reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to service. It is a meaningful reminder that the work of building community and caring for our neighbors continues to be recognized and supported.

Our work is guided by the vision of Imam W. Deen Mohammed, who taught that the purpose of a faith community is to cultivate community life. Faith should be reflected in responsible citizenship, service to neighbors, and participation in the shared life of society.

Through fellowship, service, and cooperation with other faith communities across the Bay Area, SFMCC strives to contribute to a spirit of unity, dignity, and care for all people.

We are grateful to the San Francisco Foundation for their continued support of faith communities working for the common good.
