GAIN co-director Daniel Maweu (far left picture 1) attended the Capping and Badging ceremony of 1st year midwifery students at Deanna Kay Isaacson School of Midwifery in Zwedru, Liberia. Currently there are 10 GAIN-sponsored 1st year students in the class of 54. All 54 students have begun their clinical training phase and have another 2 years left of training before becoming midwives.

Another 30 3rd year senior midwifery students underwent a GAIN-sponsored 2 week long Basic Life Saving Skills (BLSS) training, where there was a 40% average increase in the pre to post-training test scores. They have now started off on 2 month internships in hospitals around southeastern Liberia.

Congratulations to the scholars and midwives to come!

We are proud to join our GAIN Liberia fellowship cohort 2 fellows in cerebrating their graduation ceremony. This has been an exciting six-month journey of combined didactic and clinical mentorship for our fellows. The fellowship program in Liberia has helped them to transition smoothly from their BSc Nursing degree training program to professional life as maternal and child health nurses. Congratulations!!!!
