🕯️🩷🩵 THE LIGHT CONTINUES BEYOND THE NIGHT.

Thank you, San Francisco. Thank you to our families. Thank you to our village.

On October 15, we gathered at Baker Beach for Wave of Light San Francisco 2026.

As the sun disappeared behind the horizon, our lanterns illuminated the sand, each one carrying a message of love, remembrance, and hope.

Behind every light is a baby or child whose life matters. Behind every name is a family whose love continues.

To the families who joined us, shared their babies’ names, or remembered with us from afar, thank you for allowing us to hold this sacred space together.

To our volunteers, community partners, supporters, and everyone who helped make this gathering possible, we are deeply grateful.

As a family still grieving our son, LaSaaun, we understand how much these moments mean.

We don’t gather because the grief has ended. We gather because the love never will.

Through LaSaaun Lives Foundation, our commitment continues beyond October 15. We will keep honoring our babies, supporting grieving families, educating our communities, and advocating for stillbirth prevention and healthier birth outcomes.

Because remembrance must also inspire action.

To every family: Your baby matters. Your story matters. Your love matters.

💗💙 COMMUNITY SUPPORTS COMMUNITY! LET’S SHOW SOME LOVE! 🕊️

Yesterday, during our Wave of Light San Francisco gathering, we were blessed to have some amazing volunteers who showed up with open hearts and helping hands.

They provided food, drinks, and whatever assistance we needed to help create a welcoming and comforting space for our families.

And today, we want to return that love! ❤️

Their brother, a tattoo artist with Aces Tattoo, is hosting a special event in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

This event gives families an opportunity to honor their babies through meaningful memorial tattoos—creating something they can carry with them forever.

At LaSaaun Lives Foundation, we believe that remembrance comes in many forms. For some families, it’s lighting a lantern. For others, it’s speaking their baby’s name, sharing their story, or carrying a meaningful tattoo close to their heart.

There is no single way to remember a child. Every expression of love matters.

To our volunteers, thank you again for pouring into our families yesterday. We see you, we appreciate you, and we want our community to support you in return.

🩷🩵 PREGNANCY & INFANT LOSS AWARENESS DAY | OCTOBER 15, 2026

We remember. We honor. We advocate. We carry their light forward.

Tomorrow, we stand with families everywhere remembering babies gone too soon through miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss. To every parent and family carrying a love the world cannot always see: your baby matters, and your grief matters.

At LaSaaun Lives Foundation, this mission is personal.

On April 22, 2020, our son, LaSaaun Jarell Tyiska Smith, was born still. His life changed ours forever.

We are still a grieving family. Building a foundation and supporting others have not erased the ache of his absence or the milestones we wish we could share.

Our grief did not end when our advocacy began.

The numbers remind us why this work must continue. In the U.S. in 2024:
🕯️ 19,837 babies were stillborn at 20 weeks or later.
🕯️ 20,050 infants died before their first birthday.
🕯️ Black women experienced more than twice the stillbirth rate of White women.

These are not just statistics. They are babies, families, names, and futures forever changed.

Not every loss can be prevented. But more can be done through research, equitable care, pregnancy warning-sign education, listening to families, and including fathers and partners in maternal health.

Through our remembrance gatherings, Rooted in Strength™ father and partner resources, community partnerships, and prevention advocacy, we are working toward a future where families are informed, supported, and heard—before, during, and beyond birth.

Tomorrow at Baker Beach, we will gather for Wave of Light San Francisco 2026, lighting lanterns and speaking our babies’ names.

In loving memory of LaSaaun and every baby gone too soon: We remember their lives. We speak their names. We advocate for tomorrow.

It’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Week!

Let’s dive a little deeper into stillbirth and what that looks like in our state of California.

These numbers are for stillbirths that happen at or after the 20 week gestational age.

About 2,115 births end in stillbirth every year in California. Our rate of 5 births for every 1000 has stayed the same for roughly 10 years. So many families are affected by this.

We also know that our Black and African American mothers are 2 times more likely to have a stillbirth compared to any other race or ethnicity.

Data like this is why we continue to research, why we continue to advocate, why we continue to make changes in our healthcare systems.

These numbers are way too high, and here at Star Legacy we are doing something about it!
