Adoption Connection community: don’t miss this incredible talk with Angela Tucker—CEO of the Adoptee Mentoring Society—and sociologist Gretchen Sisson.

On April 2, Angela will be in conversation with Gretchen at Whetstone Wine Cellars in Napa for an evening titled "Uncorking Adoption: A Conversation Worth Savoring." Together, they’ll explore adoption through both lived experience and research—touching on identity, narrative, and the complexities that shape adoption journeys over time.

The evening will include wine, light bites, and a book signing, and is designed to be both thoughtful and accessible.

It's ! All of us at JFCS' Adoption Connection feel so fortunate to have been able to help Stephane and Marie grow their family for the second time. We love these beautiful words that Marie shared with us about their adoption journey:

"From the beginning, adoption was part of our story.
From our second date to the day we said our vows,
welcoming souls was already our shared mission.

We dreamed of a home with open doors,
a table with extra chairs,
and hearts ready to embrace... ..whoever life brought our way.

Our adoption journey taught us one truth:
family isn’t singular — it’s plural.

Love is what binds it together.

And in a world that often forgets what love looks like,
we keep choosing it, through:
- every lunch box,
- every exhausting weekend,
- every whispered bedtime story.

Our family is a blend of cultures and colors — each one completing the others.

Love doesn’t divide
love multiplies.
And it’s beautiful.

That’s the story we’re honored to live and share -
chosen twice by strong, courageous women."

Adoption begins with the desire to grow your family, but deciding if it’s the right path takes honesty and reflection.

⭐ 𝟱. 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽
Adoption doesn’t erase biological connections. Open adoption can give your child stability, identity, and meaningful ties to their birth family.

⭐ 𝟲. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸
It takes a village. Family, friends, and professionals all play a role in helping you—and your child—thrive on the adoption journey.

Adoption begins with the desire to grow your family, but deciding if it’s the right path takes honesty and reflection.

⭐ 𝟯. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀
Paperwork, educational workshops and becoming home study approved to adopt can be uncomfortable, but this builds the healthy foundation for you to parent an adopted child.

⭐ 𝟰. 𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴
You won’t know when or who will be the birth parent that chooses you. Risks, delays, and changes of plans are part of the process.

Adoption begins with the desire to grow your family, but deciding if it’s the right path takes honesty and reflection.

⭐ 𝟭. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 “𝗪𝗵𝘆”—𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Why adoption? Is it infertility, health, or the calling to provide a home? Be honest with yourself—and with your partner—about your motivations.

It’s okay to grieve. Grief may never fully go away, but readiness to adopt comes when you can move forward, expand your family, and open your heart.

🥳 Happy Birthfather’s Day!

"I believe if we, as adoption professionals, choose to set aside the traditional adversarial approach to birthfathers and instead engage with compassion and respect first, we would find it possible to cultivate more post-adoption future contact for adopted children with their birthfathers."
—Michelle Nobriga, JD, MBA, Director of JFCS' Adoption Connection

Birthmothers hold a unique and courageous place in the adoption journey. Their love, strength, and selflessness shape the foundation of a child’s adoption story.

Birthmothers make thoughtful, brave decisions—providing the gift of life and making an adoption plan that reflects deep care for their child’s future.

Whether sharing their medical history, choosing the family they personally connect with most, or committing to a post-adoption relationship, birthmothers leave an enduring, loving impact on the lives of their children and adoptive families through open adoption.

Happy Birthmother's Day from Adoption Connection!

New on the Adoption Connection Blog: 3 Crucial Questions Every Expectant Parent Should Ask Their Adoption Professional

Question #2: Will I have the support I need?

Always ask what types of support an adoption professional provides to ensure you’re cared for throughout the process. Some offer minimal services, while others provide counseling, legal guidance, and post-placement support. Choosing a professional who offers comprehensive care helps you navigate both the emotional and legal aspects of adoption.

March is Social Work Month! At Adoption Connection, we know and appreciate that social workers are at the heart of every adoption.

They provide essential support and advocacy for birth parents, adoptive families, and—most importantly—the child.

From conducting home studies to ensure a safe, loving environment to helping birth parents navigate the emotional and legal complexities of the process, their guidance is invaluable.

At Adoption Connection, social workers offer ongoing support, counseling, and resources before, during, and after placement.

By centering the child’s well-being and upholding the highest ethical standards, social workers help create strong, stable, and compassionate adoption experiences for everyone involved.
