We are thrilled to recognize Arielle Roybal as the first of two recipients of our 2026 ASLA-NCC Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Scholarship.

Arielle is an aspiring landscape architect, born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is inspired by her Northern New Mexican heritage, and looks to her family’s cultural practices for inspiration for her work. Growing up in a historically rich atmosphere, Arielle is deeply passionate about historic and cultural preservation in the context of design.

Arielle is currently a second year master’s student at UC Berkeley studying landscape architecture. Arielle’s long-term mission is to understand how landscape architecture can strengthen historically disadvantaged communities.

Applications were reviewed and evaluated by a selection committee of landscape architecture professionals. Thank you to our 2026 JEDI Scholarship Selection Jury Panel:

As ASLA begins imagining the next chapter of its strategy, we’re inviting members to think boldly and expansively about the future of the profession.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. OUR FUTURE. SIX WORDS.

Don't stop at the first answer that comes to mind. Look past today's challenges, programs, and priorities. Imagine what could be true far into the future. Consider what we might begin building today knowing we may never see it fully completed ourselves.

We couldn't be more grateful for all the time and energy our outgoing Past President, Thea Yang, has poured into her leadership positions over the past 6 years.

An Associate Open Space Planner and Capital Project Manager at the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, Thea leads projects that expand public access while protecting natural resources. Her leadership, experience and deep commitment to the field has been invaluable to our chapter.

Todd Kohli was elevated to ASLA Fellow last Thursday at the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture's Fellows and Honors Gala. Join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.

Kohli is a highly accomplished leader whose work has advanced landscape architecture across cities, campuses, and communities around the world. As a Senior Principal at SmithGroup, he leads multidisciplinary teams across multiple regions, shaping projects that bring together design excellence, sustainability, and community impact.

Kohli is exceptional for his ability to unite diverse disciplines and stakeholders to deliver complex, high-impact projects. Over a nearly 30-year career spanning 15 countries, he has helped redefine the role of landscape architects as central leaders in shaping the public realm.

Beyond his built work, Kohli has had a profound impact through mentorship and professional service. For more than two decades, he has guided students and emerging professionals, many of whom now lead firms and major projects of their own. His leadership roles with ASLA, the Urban Land Institute, and the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board have strengthened professional networks and advanced the future of the discipline.

Through visionary leadership, collaborative practice, and a deep commitment to people, Todd Kohli has elevated landscape architecture’s influence and created places that inspire, connect, and endure.

📢 Did you hear the big news at the ASLA Conference last week???

CLARB announced a $500,000 gift to the ASLA Fund to launch CLARB Exam Success Grants! This initiative will provide financial support to eligible L.A.R.E. candidates facing economic challenges in pursuing licensure. The program will be administered by the ASLA Fund over the next three years.

"We know that the path to licensure looks different for every candidate. Some have robust financial support behind them, and others are making this journey largely on their own. This grant program reflects our belief that where you start should not determine how far you can go."
