The American Indian Cultural District is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Cultural Bearer Representative Seat on the AICD Leadership Council. We invite the San Francisco Bay Area American Indian community to submit nominations through the link or QR code.

The Leadership Council Cultural Bearer Seat is intended for an American Indian community leader who is deeply rooted in their cultural heritage and teachings and who carries, preserves, practices, and passes down cultural knowledge, traditions, and community values. This community-appointed Leadership Council seat is expected to actively engage with the local community, share information, and help strengthen community attendance and participation. Leadership Council Members serve a two-year term.

Nomination Opens: May 15th
Nomination Closes: June 5th
Eligibility: San Francisco Bay Area American Indian community members.

On May 22, the American Indian Cultural District (AICD) will host our 2026 Young Leaders Council Spring Recruitment Mixer!

The evening will include light refreshments, raffle prizes, and information about the Young Leaders Council and how this opportunity can support your leadership development and impact Native communities throughout Yelamu (San Francisco). Native leaders ages 18–30 from the San Francisco Bay Area are invited to connect, learn how to lead meaningful change for American Indians in San Francisco, and help shape AICD’s future by serving on the Young Leaders Council.

Spend the day building intergenerational connections while gardening, gathering seeds, quilting, and grounding ourselves in traditional ecological knowledge. The American Indian Cultural District, in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, gathered on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Crissy Field Center to kick off our first Community Culture & Land Stewardship Program of the year. Together with over 30 community members we gathered to process acorns, create medicine bundles, pass down knowledge to one another and create intergenerational artwork for a community quilt.
