Breaking News: Major Delays on 19th Avenue Coming in December
The Caltrans project to repair 19th Avenue between Golden Gate Park (Lincoln Way) and San Francisco State University (Holloway Avenue) begins Monday, December 1. It will cause major traffic disruptions starting the week after Thanksgiving for anyone heading north to the Richmond District, Marina, or Golden Gate Bridge.

This time, it is really happening. While the project was initially set to begin in August, Caltrans cited delays to push it back to September or October, and then there were more delays. But this time the state agency says it’s coming for real!

The first phase (parking strip repaving) will begin at Sloat Boulevard moving north toward Lincoln. The repairs will slow traffic significantly during construction hours, especially during peak traffic hours (6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and around 3:00 p.m).
Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated. Caltrans says it will post details about relocations when information is available. Bus riders should check with local transit for updates. For real-time traffic information, visit: www.quickmap.dot.ca.gov.

Work will still take place weekdays only, during daylight hours, and will proceed block by block to minimize disruption. At least one lane will remain open at all times in each direction to allow traffic flow, but lane reductions will be in place, and some Muni bus routes may be temporarily relocated to accommodate construction. The second phase that includes repaving of full lanes will begin in Spring 2026.

What This Means for You:
If possible, please consider alternate routes during peak commute hours. But understand that alternative routes will also be clogged, so allow extra time to reach your destination.
Look out for signage and detours, especially around impacted Muni stops
Caltrans says that any construction comes with inconvenience, but repaving is long overdue and will benefit those who rely on this vital north-south route. We thank the office of Supervisor Myrna Melgar for keeping us informed of this program.

Dear Neighbors,

On November 18, SHARP will host a meeting with the San Francisco Police Department. Taraval Police Station Commander Captain Clayton Harmston will speak on crime and public safety in our neighborhoods and answer audience questions.

Captain Harmston was appointed as commander of Taraval Station in July, taking over shortly after Captain Brian Hoo was promoted and transferred to the airport division. Cpt. Harmston has been a police officer for 25 years, and knows the Taraval district well, having previously served at Taraval Station as a sergeant and lieutenant. According to Mission Local, "he received a Gold Medal of Valor — the department’s highest honor — and a Purple Heart in 2003 after arresting an armed driver who was on parole. The driver shot at him and another officer."

The Taraval District is the largest and most populous police jurisdiction in the city, encompassing a large part of southwestern San Francisco. It is bordered by Golden Gate Park to the north, Ocean Beach to the west, Daly City to the south, and 7th Avenue down to Interstate 280 to the east. The Sunset, Sunset Heights, Golden Gate Heights, Forest Hill, and many other neighborhoods are included in the district.

TIME/Date: 6:30 pm on Tuesday, November 18
LOCATION: 1736 - Ninth Avenue, SHARP Community Room

P.S. We are actively working to reach out to our local community to join SHARP! Please bring your favorite neighbor for an engaging discussion!
