Listen to Cole Reyes talk about “Dot Plot,” one of the pieces on our June 13 concert: “In my undergraduate studies, I pursued mathematics alongside music. Though I loved many facets of math, one that constantly eluded me was statistics. This work, Dot Plot, is an homage to the many frustrations I endured during those classes in the form of using a scatterplot (or dot plot) as inspiration. Within these plots, one may acquire many points of data that may lead to structural cohesion and a conclusion based on a hypothesis, or it may completely disintegrate.”

Check out a sneak preview of Ursula Kwong-Brown’s ‘Requiem for the Living,’ which we’ll be premiering this Saturday 2/7 at 7:30pm. In this piece, Ursula draws inspiration from her own grief to reconsider the nature of ritual, memorial, and memory, constructing a highly personal reconceptualization of the traditional Requiem form, combining Latin text with vocoder harmonies and analog synthesizer riffs from a 1982 Roland Juno.
