June is Immigrant Heritage Month.

Justice for Vicha Ratanapakdee Foundation (JFV) stands with immigrant families and communities. San Francisco is stronger because of the cultures, stories, and dreams immigrants bring from around the world.

We honor immigrant communities and support a city that is welcoming, diverse, safe, and united.

Five years ago, President Biden signed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law following the rise in anti-Asian hate during the pandemic.

The movement for action came after tragedies that deeply impacted Asian American communities across the country, including the killing of Vicha Ratanapakdee on January 28, 2021, and the Atlanta spa shootings on March 16, 2021.

Grandpa Vicha’s death became one of the moments that helped spark a national movement against anti-Asian hate and brought attention to the safety of Asian American elders and communities.

Today, we continue to honor Grandpa Vicha’s legacy through the Justice for Vicha mural, Vicha Ratanapakdee Way in San Francisco, and ongoing advocacy for safer communities and stronger protections for seniors.

While progress has been made, our work is not finished.

At the Justice for Vicha Ratanapakdee Foundation, we continue advocating for stronger protections for seniors, safer communities, accountability, and dignity for all.

We honor Grandpa Vicha’s life, legacy, and the communities that continue standing together against hate and violence.

In 2024, Songkran was officially recognized by the California State Assembly for the first time as the Songkran New Year Festival, April 13–15.

I am honored to repost the News story and share special moments from our 2026 Songkran celebrations at San Francisco City Hall with the Mayor and at the State Building with state officials.

This recognition is deeply meaningful because it honors our culture, our elders, and our Southeast Asian community. After losing my father, Grandpa Vicha Ratanapakdee, I never imagined this would become part of my life’s work.
But his legacy continues to guide me to serve the community, protect our elders, and keep our culture alive for future generations.

As we welcome AAPI Heritage Month, I want to thank all of the community leaders, organizations, performers, volunteers, and partners who helped make this celebration meaningful.

Special thanks to our community partners, including
Southeast Asian Community Center SEACC, SEADC, , One Myanmar Community, Community Health for Asian Americans, Wanlop KachinthornThai Association of Northern California, Bamboo Voice Organization , Jee SuthamwanthaneeThai Unity Community, Wat Buddhanusorn Thai Cultural Council of Fremont, Wat Mongkolratanaram Nui Loakimpongswat Thai Cultural Council of Berkeley, First Thai Christian Presbyterian Church in San Jose, World Team USA Muay Thai, and the Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month - San FranciscoAPA Heritage Foundation.

San Francisco honored Grandpa Vicha Ratanapakdee with a resolution recognizing his life, legacy, and the need to better protect seniors.

This moment is not only about remembering my father. It is about public safety, respect for elders, violence prevention, and making sure future generations learn compassion and dignity.

My father should still be here.
We hope his legacy will continue to bring awareness, healing, and action for safer communities in San Francisco.

Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with our family and with all vulnerable seniors.

After the sentencing of my father, Grandpa Vicha, I want to thank our community and everyone who has supported our family.

We know the outcome has been very hard for many.

But we will keep moving forward.

We will continue to fight for justice—for other victims, for public safety, and for our communities.

We will carry on my father’s legacy by working to protect seniors, support safer neighborhoods, and ensure future generations respect and care for our elders.

San Francisco should be a place where everyone can walk safely, raise their children, and where small businesses can grow stronger.

In this case, thank you to the SFDA and SFPD worked hard.

Now leaders must act. We must push for stronger laws to protect public safety and prevent repeat offenders from being released back onto the streets.

This is not about one case. It is about all of us.

Let’s work together to make San Francisco safer and better for everyone.

Thank you.
Monthanus Ratanapakdee

He never provoked anyone. He deserved justice. Our leaders must strengthen laws to protect public safety and stop repeat offenders from being released.

San Francisco is failing victims.

• Dennis Duree – diversion → later stabbed 2 people (1 dead)
• Cassidy Wyatt Allen – repeat offender, diversion again → murder
• ‘Thompson’ case – released → stabbed elderly victims (63 & 84)
• Villanueva – diversion → killed someone in 36 days
• Hanako Abe – defendant released
• Multiple diversion/pretrial releases
• Charles Wentworth – repeat offender in diversion

In my father’s case, there was strong work from the and . But the system still allowed probation. This is not one case—it is a pattern.

We cannot continue like this.

San Francisco needs real justice reform—or California law must change to protect victims and ensure public safety.
