Happy Valley of the Moon!

The Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School is an annual weeklong retreat currently hosted in the Santa Cruz mountains. This year it runs August 28 through June 5th. While it's not directly a San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers event, it's run through our parent organization the Scottish Fiddlers of California.

This picture is from the dance and concert that was the culmination of last year's camp. This year's show will be on September 4th at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.

The Caledonian Club of San Francisco's Scottish Games is coming up in just a couple of weeks. We'll be there among the pipers and caber tossers on Sunday September 6th doing three sets at 9:45 AM, 12:45 PM and 3:00 PM.

One of our director Caroline McCaskey's recent tune of the day project recordings over on AltStrings hits one of our club favorite tunes: Largo's Fairy Dance. This lively tune was composed by none other than Nathaniel Gow. Nathaniel Gow was the son of Niel Gow, both noted composers, collectors, arrangers and publishers of tunes in the late 1700s and early 1800s in Scotland.
