A Lifetime of Justice, Faith, and Freedom:
Rev. Dr. Amos C. Brown will be honored with the NAACP's 111th Spingarn Medal at the 117th National Convention in Chicago
Today, the San Francisco community celebrates a giant among giants. It is with immense pride and deep gratitude that we congratulate Rev. Dr. Amos C. Brown, Sr. on receiving the NAACP’s prestigious Spingarn Medal, one of the highest honors bestowed upon an African American leader.
For decades, Rev. Dr. Brown has stood at the intersection of faith, justice, and action. From his work alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement to his transformational leadership at Third Baptist Church to his unwavering advocacy for voting rights, reparations, economic justice, and human dignity, his life has modeled what courageous leadership looks like.
San Francisco has been shaped by his prophetic voice, moral clarity, and relentless commitment to the Black community.
On behalf of the San Francisco Branch of the NAACP, we honor Rev. Dr. Brown for a lifetime of transformational service and congratulate him on this historic recognition. His legacy continues to challenge all of us to organize boldly, lead faithfully, and fight tirelessly for freedom and equality.
Rev. Dr. Frederick Haynes III, Brown's long-time friend, spiritual son, and mentee for social justice and world peace, will present the medal to Rev. Dr. Brown at the Spingarn Award dinner on Wednesday, July 22nd at 7 pm.
