For decades, Catholic sisters have been shaping the field of community development finance—putting capital to work in service of economic justice, affordable housing, and community well-being long before impact investing became mainstream.

We're honored to spotlight the Religious Communities Impact Fund (RCIF), a longtime investor and partner whose roots with Community Vision stretch back more than 35 years. RCIF was founded by several congregations of Catholic sisters, some of which had already been investing in Community Vision and other community development organizations for years, recognizing they could deepen their impact by pooling resources and investing together.

Read the full Investor Spotlight to learn about RCIF's history, its longstanding partnership with Community Vision, and the shared commitment to community ownership, economic justice, and community-led solutions that continues to guide our work today.

Advocacy is part of how we move our mission forward—supporting policies and investments that advance community ownership and strengthen local economies.

In our latest blog, we share reflections from recent advocacy days in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., where we joined fellow CDFIs to meet with lawmakers and public officials about the critical role community investment plays in expanding economic opportunity.

CDFIs were created to help address systemic disinvestment and unequal access to capital, and advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels is another way we continue that work.

Thank you to California Coalition for Community Investment and Rise Economy for organizing these important advocacy days.

We’re excited to share that Calvert Impact has provided a $5 million loan to our loan fund—further powering our ability to get flexible capital into the hands of nonprofits and social enterprises across California.

Together, we’re expanding access to financing that supports community-serving spaces—like affordable housing, healthcare centers, and more.

As a new investment partner, Calvert Impact Capital brings a shared commitment to aligning capital with community priorities. We’re grateful to collaborate in ensuring we can continue investing in communities moving from vision to ownership of their spaces.

We’re proud to share our 2025 Annual Report: Building Resilience Through Partnerships.

This past year reinforced something we’ve long believed: lasting impact depends on strong partnerships. Across California, we’re expanding opportunity, strengthening community ownership, and investing in the foundations that help communities thrive.

Our housing work shows this in action—we invested over $20MM in projects from Humboldt County to Los Angeles County, supporting everything from community land trusts to large-scale affordable housing. This momentum is also reflected in our largest lending year to date, with more than $50.6MM invested in communities across the state.

We’re grateful to our staff, partners, clients, and communities who continue to shape and strengthen this work. Partnership remains at the heart of everything we do.

Today, we're at the State Capitol with for !

We're meeting with legislators to highlight the vital role Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) play in strengthening communities across California—and to call for the renewal of the California Investment & Innovation Program (Cal IIP).

Cal IIP pairs state funding with private capital to unlock investment in communities across the state, advancing economic opportunity for all Californians.

CDFIs are already delivering real impact across California. With continued investment through Cal IIP, we can do even more to ensure our communities stay vibrant and equitable.

Community ownership is growing in Fresno’s Tower District.

South Tower Community Land Trust has acquired a permanent headquarters that will also provide affordable, flexible space for other nonprofit and community-serving organizations, including a local bookstore and a community clinic.

Community Vision supported the acquisition with $350,000 in financing, helping take the building out of the speculative market and place it under long-term community stewardship.
