Last week, Dear Community had the opportunity to attend the 3rd Annual Chinatown Solidarity Summit in Vancouverโ€™s Chinatown. Grateful to have the opportunity to learn alongside 60 inspiring API leaders from across the nation who are doing critical work to preserve culture, support small businesses, and strengthen our communities. So much shared knowledge, resilience, and collective vision in one space. ๐Ÿ’›

San Francisco was well represented, and weโ€™re excited to continue working alongside storied Chinatown nonprofits like Cameron House, Chinatown Community Development Center, Chinese Historical Society of America, Edge on the Square, and Committee of 100. Together, we look forward to amplifying critical initiatives- from preserving history, culture, and the arts, to advancing housing affordability, supporting youth and seniors, and strengthening international connections.

Thank you, Vancouver Chinatown Foundation and U.S. Consulate in Vancouver and event organizers, Brian Pang and Carol Lee for making this gathering possible.

Honored and excited to be part of this coalition that is committed to working together to better our Asian American community in San Francisco ๐Ÿฎ

๐Ÿ“ฃToday, TAAF is proud to introduce the grassroots organizations in the San Francisco โ€œAsian American Voicesโ€ initiativeโ€”an effort rooted in a simple belief: the people closest to the community are the ones best equipped to help it thrive.

Across the city, small community-based nonprofits have long been the backbone of AAPI neighborhoodsโ€”organizing safety patrols, leading neighborhood cleanups, and creating spaces of belonging. Yet despite their impact, many face ongoing challenges in sustaining and growing their work.

Through TAAFโ€™s infrastructure and convening power, โ€œAsian American Voicesโ€ was born to encourage donors across the Bay Area to invest more into grassroots groups that have tirelessly served our communities, but face sustainability challenges. Through this initiative, TAAF has already distributed more than $350,000 raised from local donors to 13 grassroots organizations to build their capacity and ensure AAPI residents can access a strong ecosystem of support.

Dear Community,

In moments like these, showing up matters.

This Friday, join journalist Dion Lim in conversation with San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins for an important discussion on justice, accountability, and healing in our community.

Hosted at the Commonwealth Club World Affairs, this conversation will reflect on the cases of Grandma Yik Oi Huang and Grandpa Vichaโ€”and explore what justice truly means, and where we go from here.

This is more than a conversation. Itโ€™s a moment for our community to come together, be seen, and be heard.

On January 28, 2021 Grandpa Vicha Ratanapakdee was violently pushed in an unprovoked attack in San Franciscoโ€™s Anza Vista neighborhood. He passed away two days later from his injuries.

In March 2026, Judge Linda Colfax sentenced Antoine Watson to an eight-year term, with credit earned for the last 5 years he was in jail and suspending the remaining years due to good behavior. He will be released on probation.

Join District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and journalist Dion Lim for a conversation examining concerns about a justice system that many feel shows leniency toward perpetrators of violent crime, while too often overlooking the safety, dignity, and lives of our elders.
