In honor of International Women’s Month, we would like to honor and recognize some of the great women we have in our department and organization!

Janaina “Jani” Yera-Paez is a proud native of San Francisco, raised in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood. She attended the San Francisco public school system before graduating from Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. Jani went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from USF in Business Management. Shortly after graduating, she began working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, where she spent several years developing her leadership skills as a manager in both San Francisco and New York City.

After returning to the Bay Area, Jani made a life-changing decision to pursue a career as firefighter for the very city that raised her. She was a member of the 130th Recruit Academy and served her probationary period at Engine 10 and Truck 17. She is now proudly assigned to Engine 43. For Jani, the most meaningful part of the job is the impact she makes, serving the same communities she grew up in and mentoring the youth through the San Francisco Fire Youth Academy.

Outside of work, Jani has a deep love for dancing, especially to Latin music. She is also a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Let’s show Jani some love and thank her for her service!

Oluwatosin pronounced (O-loo-wash-toe-son), was born in Nigeria but raised in California . She has a BA in Psychology from San Francisco State. Before she got into EMS she worked various jobs such as waitress/bartender, wildland firefighter, conservation work, and she volunteered with Americorps. She joined the San Francisco Fire Department as an EMT in 2021, With the help of her mentor and friend Sukai, she then went on the become a paramedic for the department. Oluwatosin’s favorite part of the job is the variability of it all, she never knows what type of call she may respond too, which keeps things fun for her.

When Oluwatosin is not working her hobbies are just saying yes to random stuff; rock climbing, scuba diving, whatever seems like a good time, she will try at least once. let’s show Oluwatosin some love and thank her for her service!

Aniyah Cusseaux, a Vallejo, CA native studied journalism before she got into EMS. She has been an EMT for the past five years, working for various private ambulance companies before joining the San Francisco Fire Department. She got hired with the department as an EMT at station 49 in September 2024, class 26, so she has been with the department for the past year and a half now. She loves that every shift is an opportunity to serve, to grow, and to be there for people when they need it most. Being a woman in EMS is something she carries with pride, and she hopes to inspire other women to step into spaces where they belong just as much.

When Aniyah is not working she likes to spend her free time traveling, going hiking, and spending time with her family and friends. Let’s show Aniyah some love and thank her for her service!

In honor of Black History month, we would like to recognize some of the great men and women we have working for our department and organization.

Lieutenant Jacob Hill, born and raised in San Francisco, CA, has always given back to his community, even before he became a firefighter. As a former garbage man, school bus driver and a licensed barber, Jacob has always been a helping hand for the youth and the community. Jacob’s propensity to help others and give back, is exactly what led him to becoming a firefighter.

In 2016 Jacob was accepted into and passed the SFFD fire academy, and officially became a firefighter for the city that he grew up in and always called home. Jacob spent his probationary time at stations 7 and 17. After probation, Jacob became a member of station 36/ Haz-Mat 36. Jacob is one of a handful of certified Hazardous Materials Specialist that we have in our department. In May 2024, Jacob became a Lieutenant within the SFFD and is currently the Lieutenant on Engine 17. Jacob has also served as an Executive Board Member for the SFBFA for the past 6 years. The thing Jacob really loves the most about the job is pulling up on a call and knowing the people of his community. He also enjoys being able to be there to help people on possibly their worst day. Furthermore, he enjoys the challenge of fighting fire and how dynamic and different every fire presents.

When Jacob is not busy at work he enjoys playing basketball, playing dominoes, and spending time with his family! Let’s show Jacob some love and thank him for his service!

In honor of Black History month, we would like to recognize some of the great men and women we have working for our department and organization.

Joshua Rademacher, is originally from Florida, where he attended the University of South Florida and received his bachelor’s degree in economics. Josh started his career in the fire service with the Orange County Fire Rescue Department in 2011, serving the Orlando, FL area as a firefighter for five years. During that time, he met his wife Arika, a Bay Area native, and eventually relocated to California.

In January 2016, Josh was hired on as a firefighter with the San Francisco Fire Department. Josh has proudly served the city for the past ten years and is currently a Lieutenant at Truck 7 in the Mission. If you asked him what he loves most about being a firefighter, he would say, “I love to sq**rt water and break stuff”. But above all he loves the strong sense of brotherhood and willingness to look out for one another.

When he’s not spending most of his life in the firehouse, Josh enjoys spending time at home with his wife and kids. He also often takes trips back to Florida to stay in touch with family. Let’s show Josh some love and thank him for his service!
