Youth homelessness is down according to the Point-In-Time count. Albeit just a bit, but moving in the right direction. Let’s get that number to 0!

On February 23, 2022, HSH conducted a Point-In-Time (PIT) Count. The PIT Count is the primary source of nationwide data on homelessness and identifies people living in unsheltered and sheltered settings.

As a result of our overall findings, total homelessness (sheltered + unsheltered) decreased by 3.5% throughout San Francisco. Other key findings showed that:
🔑 unsheltered homelessness decreased by 15%
🔑 the number of people staying in shelters increased by 18%
🔑 people experiencing chronic homelessness decreased by 11%
🔑 unhoused Youth (under age 24) decreased by 6%

Congrats Larkin Street Youth Services. Thank you for your continued work housing Transition Age Youth. We can’t wait to see the final building.

“Larkin Street Youth Services is thrilled to see the continued growth of San Francisco’s portfolio of supportive housing for Transition Age Youth (TAY) with the groundbreaking at 78 Haight Street. We have a longstanding and successful partnership with TNDC that started more than 20 years ago when we launched the first supportive housing program for TAY in the nation. A safe and stable place to call home opens doors to the future for young people, and this development will give 32 TAY households the opportunity for a brighter future off the streets.” - Sherilyn Adams, Executive Director

Did you know that Rising Up has helped 501 young people exit from homelessness or avoid it all together?

Our goal is to, by 2023, house 400 youth in our Rapid Rehousing Program and help 450 youth avoid homelessness through our Problem Solving programs. To reach our goals we have increased our budget and enhanced our programs. Read more about our goals, achievements and what’s next in our recent Rising Up Update Report.
