In this clip from the documentary Beyond the Trees, Dr. Jerry Franklin—the world-renowned forest ecologist often called “the father of new forestry”—explains how PFT changed the conversation for private landowners by demonstrating that their forests can provide both economic and ecological benefits.

It's Wildlife Wednesday!

Check out this trail camera footage of an elk in a wallow!

Wallows serve multiple purposes for elk. They can provide relief from biting insects, and during the rut, bulls use them to cover themselves in scent and pheromones that help attract cows.

For Wildlife Wednesday this week, we're celebrating California Condors!

After more than a century away, a California condor has returned to Oregon skies. Condor B9 recently flew from Northern California to southern Oregon, marking the first documented free-flying California condor in the state since 1904. The milestone is part of the ongoing Yurok Tribe-led condor restoration effort that began with releases in Redwood National and State Parks in 2022.

It's Wildlife Wednesday, and this black bear stopped to pose for a portrait!

Black bears provide many ecosystem benefits, such as seed dispersal and forest regeneration.

They eat large amounts of berries, acorns, fruits, and other plant material. Seeds pass through their digestive system and get deposited across large areas in nutrient-rich s**t, helping plants spread and regenerate forests.

This is important in mixed-conifer forests, coast range forests, oak woodlands, and chaparral habitats.

Because bears roam many miles, they move seeds farther than many smaller mammals.
