🌮🥑 Today was about much more than tacos, chips & guacamole…

2026 has been a difficult year so far on the Transplant Unit at CHP…but these professionals just keep showing up and serving! 🙏

Through long days, countless challenges & heavy hearts…the nurses, physicians, social workers, coordinators, and support staff of 7B have continued to show up with compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment to the families they serve.

Today, Pressing On was honored to provide lunch for the team in memory of our late colleague and dear friend, Shaelyn Beachem. We even had a few special guests join us!

June was Shae’s birthday month, and there isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t feel the impact of her passion for transplant families, her humble spirit of service, and her tireless advocacy for organ donation. Her legacy continues to live on in the lives she touched and in the work that continues on this unit every day.

The work of pediatric transplantation is demanding, often unseen, and carries both profound joy and profound heartbreak. Yet this team continues to walk faithfully alongside children and families through every step of the journey.

To the entire 7B team: THANK YOU for the countless ways you care for children and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Thank you for your resilience, your kindness, and your willingness to keep showing up even when the journey is hard. We hope today’s lunch served as a small reminder that you are seen, you are appreciated, and your work matters.
💙 In memory of Shae.
💚 In gratitude for 7B.

🍋🥨 Some of the most meaningful moments at the hospital don’t happen just in operating rooms or clinic visits — they happen around simple conversations, shared stories, lemonade, and snacks.

Every Tuesday at 2pm, our Caregiver Connections gathering brings together transplant moms and dads on the 7B Transplant Floor at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for encouragement, refreshments, and community.

When families are walking through long hospital stays, uncertainty, exhaustion, and overwhelming decisions, connection matters. Sometimes what a parent needs most is another parent who gets the journey — reminding them that they are seen, valued, and loved.

Special thanks to everyone who helps us create safe spaces of hope and encouragement inside the hospital walls, especially our .donate.life friends. 💙💚

🏥 If you’ve sat in this room before, you know how isolating and hopeless it can feel…
🌎 Watching the world pass by the hospital with all kinds of busy plans, while you sit in the healthcare unknowns of today wondering what tomorrow will hold…
☀️ While the Sunroom is an upgrade from lying in a hospital bed, it’s still a far cry from thriving in the outside world…
🙏 If you’ve sat in this seat on a dark day - we FEEL you, we SEE you, we’re WITH you. Regardless of what today brings, there is hope for tomorrow…
💙 Even on the days where it feels like no one understands this crazy journey of hospital life that you’re family is on, know that you are SEEN, VALUED and LOVED!

Register as an Organ Donor during Donate Life Month!

04/30/2026

Today is Donor Remembrance Day. 💙💚 Today and every day, the donation and transplant community comes together to honor and celebrate the donor heroes who have given the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation. We are sharing forget-me-not flowers to symbolize that donors and their legacy of generosity will always be remembered.

As National Donate Life Month comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who participated in activities, shared their stories, and helped support the mission of educating, inspiring, and activating others to register their decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. We can't do this without you! 💙💚 Keep that inspiration flowing by sharing with us what transplant helped make possible in your life (or a loved one's!) in the comments:

This week, it’s been our privilege to take part in the 2026 Starzl Network Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA as transplant professionals, surgeons, hepatologists, researchers, patients and families engaged to support excellence in pediatric transplantation!

So many valuable topics were covered with the goal of changing pediatric transplant for the good - from optimizing immunosuppression, reducing waitlist mortality, to AI innovations in pediatric liver transplant, to patients and caregivers sharing their personal stories of perseverance on their transplant journey.

It’s amazing to think that over 70% of all pediatric transplants are represented in this wonderful network that values the voices of patients and families. We’re grateful to learn from and collaborate with these amazing individuals as we serve families on the journey of transplant!

💙💚 During Donate Life Month, we want to pause and remember our fellow transplant colleague and dear friend, Shaelyn Beachem…

💫 Shae’s life work and greatest passion was her job as a Pediatric Transplant Nurse at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. We had the privilege of seeing her make a difference every single week on the transplant floor…advocating, teaching, instructing, nursing, educating, encouraging and always going above and beyond to serve patients and families on the journey of transplant.

Shae championed “Donate Life Month” in April, constantly striving to raise awareness for the importance of organ donation. We loved collaborating with her to intentionally serve families. Even in her sudden passing earlier this month, she provided a final gift of tissue donation.

🙏 We’re humbled to continue serving families on the journey of transplant, motivated by Shae’s passion. A shining light in the Pittsburgh transplant community!
