VFW San Fernando There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves.

Our mission is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts and to serve our veterans, the military and our communities and advocate on behalf of all veterans. The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. Building upon VFW's mission, VFW Post 3834 San Fernando (aka Robert G Morton Post 3834 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, www.vfw3834.org) is dedicated to advocacy for veterans benefits, and assisting veterans with any claims they wish to file for service-connected issues.

Today we recognize the men and women who have been wounded or gave their lives in service to our nation. The Purple Hear is a symbol of sacrifice that words can't fully capture.

To every Purple Heart recipient in our VFW family and beyond, thank you for your service and your sacrifice. We see you, we honor your, and we will never forget.

As Commander of VFW Post 3834, I'm proud to stand alongside these heroes today and everyday.

Since its establishment by General George Washington in 1782, the Purple Heart has remained a symbol of courage, sacrifice and unwavering service. Today, we honor every recipient who has borne the cost of defending our nation.

We're looking for more builders.

If you're a veteran who's eligible for the VFW but never joined, I have one question. What if your local post wasn't just a place to meet, but a place to make an impact?

We're looking for veterans who want to organize community events, advocate for policies that improve veterans' lives, mentor the next generation, build partnerships with local organizations, and strengthen the communities we call home.

If you're motivated by solving problems, leading projects, and serving alongside other veterans, there's a place for you.

This isn't about adding your name to a membership roster. It's about joining a team committed to making a measurable difference, one project, one family, and one community at a time.

If you're ready to help build that kind of VFW, I'd like to connect.
